ClearCoat on mobo?

Philgag

Hey, while messing in my computer I scratched the mobo with my nail... it left a little white trail over some circuits near the floppy connector..., however, I have fired the beast back on, ran it for days, played games, Even changed my PCI card places in different configuration and everything is working perfecly... so I guess I just scratched the clearcoat or something, right?

thanks

If it was your fingernail, it is most likely the chitin from your nail that left the line rather that a true scratch on the PCB. Considering that fingernails aren't that conductive, you're probably going to be O.K. You could probably be very careful and try to remove it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are compitent in electronics. If everything is working fine, why mess with it?

Don't worry about it because no harm was done unless you cut all the way through a copper trace. The clear coating is there to prevent solder from sticking to the copper and causing shorts.

Thats nothing, I scratched a huge chunk outa my k7s5a , exposed a huge amount of gold, luckiy, there were no traces, it is just a big empty spot where the traces would normally be on a MOBO with a separeate NB and SB..

Man, if he has chitin in his fingernails, he's one scary dude! (Chitin in normally found in crustaceans and some other arthropods. But his claws might be good with drawn butter.)

Now you're really freakin' me! On Moh's hardness scale, a fingernail rates 2.5, and a screwdriver is from 5.5 to 6. Sounds like you're saying that Philgag is some sort of lobster-- Edward Scissorhands mutant!

;^) Happy Holidays to all.
