Clear cola drink| I want Crystal Pepsi back!(assuming it tastes like regular Pepsi)

Is there any clear cola drink on the market today and why did it go away?

I really like the idea of clear Pepsi or clear Coke that tastes exactly like it's brown counterpart. I googled around and there was a product called Clear Tab(Cocacola company, they still make regular Tab, but this is not quite Coke) and Crystal Pepsi. Of these two, Crystal Pepsi was supposed to taste just like Pepsi, however many consumers reported it never quite tasted the same.

If it was easy as just skipping caramel color, I'd think it will still be available today.

My thought is that Cola product(which contains Cola nuts extract) looks stale urine yellow or something along that line when you simply skip the caramel color. Consequently, they must run it through further refinery process with adverse affect on its taste.

By the way, something rare like Crystal Pepsi is available. Where? eBay ofcourse!. I don't think that particular item is drinkable anymore however.

update: I tried to see if I could make Crystal Coke, though undrinkable. It failed big time. Rather than water clearness I was hoping, it turned into what I expected, pi$$ yellow.

Isn't that the Gatorade Ice with I think raspberry flavor or whatever? glanced it in the grocery store, figured the original would be better, but now I'm interested

and lol, that ebay item is hilarious. $19 for an old, unopened, discolored bottle of soda...

I doubt they're much better than the one from eBay. Probably icky and yellowed.
 
you'd think crystal pepsi would have been more popular because it probably doesn't have the teeth-staining effects of the real pepsi. but maybe it's a psychological thing....i for one would just buy sprite if i wanted to drink something clear 🙂

Anyway, I remember everytime I was drinking it with someone, some idiot would always say "I think it tastes like 7UP"
There was a recipe somewhere for turning regular cola clear.

 
correct me if I'm worng, but isn;t the sodium hypoclorite you added to that coke just bleach? If that why you said it was non-potable?
 
I was on holiday in the US when they had Crystal Pepsi and I though it was pretty good so I brought a 24 pack back with me. When my mates when on hols to the US a few years later could they find it, nope, was only then I found out they canned it (no pun intended)
 
I only have one memory of it:

I was on a class field trip to a bank tower in Portland, & we were eating lunch in a conference room on the 30 something floor. One of my classmates had a can of Crystal Pepsi, & I had never tried it. I was going to buy it from him, but my mom wouldn't let me.

I liked Crystal Pepsi. The area I lived in was the original test market for it, so we had it way before everyone else. Everyone I talked to in other areas thought I was nuts when I talked about a clear Pepsi.

Am I the only one that didn't like that stuff.. Well, obviously not since they no longer make it. I seem to remember that it had a slimy feel to it.

On a side note, does anyone remember the SNL commercials for Clear Gravy??🙂

this doesn't relate to pepsi, BUT

some dude once told me that the reason coke introduced "new coke" and then soon after rescinded it was to change the formula.

the figured once people got "regular" coke back, that they wouldn't notice the slightly different taste

is this crazy talk?
