Clear and lightweight materials?

I'm looking around for some lightweight material that can take some impact, Lexan would work but it's a little heavy for our use.

This will be used on the sides of a robot that I'm a part of that we're building for some competitions. A mesh of something strong would work, however we need to be able to see through in some way.

Any thoughts on what we could use? The budget we're working in is somewhat open so feel free to make suggestions that might cost a little more th an others.

Why does it have to be clear? I'm thinking that's going to throw a kink in things if you don't want lexan...

Cycolac, Noryl, Kynar.

Probably not available with transparency you're looking for.

Polycarbonate is probably too brittle?

Cheers!

I'm going to say Acrylic, you can get 1/8-inch 12x24 sheets for around $10.

Also, if budget isn't really an obstacle, then I would reconsider Lexan.

I spent the past hour or so reading about that, seems interesting and something we might use. Thanks! :)

Now to go through other recommendations ;)

Tritiated aerogels. This way you won't need atypical electrical illuminators! :p

Of course the project never made it past those microspheres back in 1991. Who would've thought the GaP losses would've come down even with 11 keV avg ß energies.

Well that was a little too much. Damn Kinley makes me do that. :D

Cheers!
