I was cleaning some of my fans on my case the other day and I couldn't believe how much dust had built up as well as the inside and on my hardware.

So whats the best way to keep your hardware clean. I've heard a can of compressed air works really well. What do you guys do?
 
do not use a vacuum, it will suck the megahertz out of your cpu. stick with canned air
 
I take mine outside and use the leafblower... not a speck of dust left after that.

IF YOU USE THE ABOVE METHOD... TIE DOWN YOUR FANS SO THEY WON'T SPIN AT 20,000 RPM!!!

 
Do not use a vacuum on the inside of your computer. Stick with a can of compressed air. And uh.. i don't recommend the leafblower "solution" either
 
no, if you just use canned air, the dust blows out of one place, and into another. stick the vacuum there, and it will suck out the dust that the canned air blows out. just be careful of fans.
 
I've always tried to tell my students that their computers should never be situated close or on the floor. Dust collected can be the killer of many a computer due to heat buildup and other maladies.

Well, I always cleaned out their rigs when servicing with a small air compressor that I got from Sears long ago. This unit are no longer available but I found a unit that fills the bill here.

I'm a gadget guy and this little compressor is great for modelers and all around the house jobs.
My Sears unit has blown out many dust-filled computers and this is a must for the serious PCer.
