Cleaning Your Processor?

I was reapplyin some generic silver compound to my 2100+ today after lapping my heatsink, and I manged to smear some on the core, but I didnt know how to get it off. I scraped as much as I could off with a Q-tip, but the stuff is thick and it just smears. Is it safe to use rubbing alochol on it?

I agree with the goof off and rubbing alcohol, but cotton balls or q-tips may leave fibers on the core and screw up your cooling. I just use coffee filters or lens cleaners.

Electrical Contact cleaner and a Q-tip, followed by a close inspection of core and heatsink for any fibers/debris with a magnifying glass.

Do you mean the board or the core? I cleaned Arctic Silver II off my old Tbird with an old tshirt dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol. It should just wipe off the core though.

we have this great stuff at work called tronic clean. it will actually take off the thermal pads off heatsinks and around cpus using no force and cotton swabs. it will dry to the touch within a minute also.
