I think toilet paper has the potential to scratch an LCD screen.

Maybe single-ply industrial-grade crap like you'd find in a college dorm, but not the good stuff.
 
you guys can do whatever you want, but it is simply stupid to use anything but 100% cotton. not only can you put minor scratches in the screen, but you could actually scrape layers of anti-glare coating off of it. go ahead, use paper towels, toilet paper, and whatever else, but dont cry about it when you have random spots of annoying glare or small scratches.
 
Use a little more water to rewet those smudges. Then use a second dry lint free cloth to remove any excess water on the screen.
