Cleaning Lady Interview

today, i had a cleaning lady come over to give me an estimate on how much it would cost to clean our townhouse. we got into a discussion about vacuums and vacuuming the floor because i mentioned that another cleaning lady who came over earlier today had a backpack vacuum which made her job so much easier (we have all hardwood flooring in the house).

she said, "oh, God, that'd make my life so much easier. i need one. the one i have at home is this vacuum that's kinda like a home shopvac, but it has a bunch of different attachments on the main part. i don't like using it, but a lot of other cleaning ladies have that kind of vacuum.... stupid hose."

i cracked up because it sounded like she was calling the other cleaning ladies "hoes". i don't think she realized why i cracked up so hard... she just thought i got a kick out of her vacuum hose being cumbersome.

uh, no, actually... it was about how much she was going to clean the house for. see, some cleaning ladies have hourly rates... and you have no idea how long it would take them to clean your house or how good a job they might do in the amount of time you'd like for them to spend cleaning unless they come to your house and look around and tell you how much it will run you.

p.s. i've never had a hispanic cleaning lady... never found one. all of them have been white.

there aren't that many cleaning ladies that do the job for the price range i'm looking for.
