I need to get a HS cleaned. I was going to use Alcohol, but didn't have any 99%...before I go out and buy it I was wondering if anyone knew of anything better.

Obviously Artic Silver has a cleaner but I was wondering if there was a normal over the shelf product like Goo Remover that would work better.

Thanks!

Rubbing alcohol is 70% which is fine. 99% will clean better but if you're not doing insane overclocking or anything exotic it is ok. Use a non lint producing soft cloth. It's not the best cleaner but for the average joe it's good enough.

I've always used off the shelf rubbing alcohol. I know its supposed to be highly concentrated and all that, but I've never had trouble. I just apply a bit to a corner of a rag or paper towel and go at it. I just wouldn't soak a CPU in it over the weekend to get it super clean ;)
For a HS, it doesn't matter much neway; u could use gasoline if u really wanted as long as u got rid of any residue :p

i've used acetone too also off the shelf rubbing alcohol.

acetone works great, just keep it away from any pcb's
