Cleaning cpu with acetone?

Hey guys I'm just wondering if it's a good idea to clean the cpu with acetone before I install the hsf and thermal paste?
 
Just be careful not to spill it near your computer. Acetone will melt plastic.
I personally prefer to use isopropyl alcohol as a cleaner.
 
There is absolutely no reason to use acetone. Rubbing alchohol is fine. If there's an old pad you need to get off it then I'd use Goof-Off before using Acetone.
 
Some ppl use nail polish remover and that is acetone with an oil in it to keep the nail bed
from drying out. I've used acetone a dozen times because it's at hand. I use it also in fiberglassing to thin epoxy rosin.

Acetone is incredably agerssive and must be used with extream care, even a slight residue
on a rag will lift any finish it's left on, including the mainboard. Rough on the lungs too!

Does it work. Yes.

Next time i'm at Home Depot denatured alcohol will be on the buy list.

Acetone is okay if you're using it on a CPU. Just like the post above, acetone will go through ANY finish,paint on the surface. I've used acetone on cleaing up cores (CPU and GPU) when I ran out of alcohol. Just don't use it too often and when using it be very careful. I would suggest using paper towel and have dabs of acetone on it and use the towel to remove whatever you want to remove. DO NOT ever pour it on top of something. EVER! Also don't ever use it on anything that's not metal surface. Some people were stupid enough to use acetone to clean their laptop screen....
