cleaning cat hair out of a computer power supply?

got some really clogged PSU's.

edit: what about cat hair?
it seems like the PSU would need to be opened up to get that out.

Compressed air from the outside. If you have to ask, you really shouldn't be opening them.

Don't open it, even when turned off and disconnected the capacitors hold enough charge to kill you and the next guy next to you if you touch them.

If you know what you're doing you can discharge them, but I don't recommend it.

You're thinking CRTs. I've taken a direct hit from a faulty PSU, and while it hurt like a bitch and gave me a nice electrical burn, it sure as hell didn't do any last damage.

I see I've got a brother in the shocked dept, you lost your r to a similar fate I take it?

OP - Compressed air should take out cat hair unless it's really thick. I'd be setting up a filter system if it's that bad that there's cat hair in your power supply.

If it's old enough to be loaded with cat hair, open it up, blow it out while scrubbing it with a small new paint brush. Then replace the fan with one of the same spec.

The primary heat sink will probably be hot with 160VDC, if you power it up with the case open.

First, I would remove the PSU from the computer.

Second I would open it up. It is not necessary to touch the caps.

Third, I would then vacuum all of the hair out with a crevice tool or smaller. (I have computer tools for that.)

(No need to blow the hair around to get into everything else.)

Fourth, I would shoot the cat, skin it, and nail the hide to the computer room door to warn all future felines!
