clean xp install, now can't connect

just got a inspiron 9300 yesterday. today i formated and did a clean install of xp w/ sp2. now i can't connect to the internet. please help

Did you plug it in? Release and renew IP? Clear the buffer?

its plugged in. i dont think its even recognizing a connection. my router isn't recognizing it either.

i'm a moron. i just downloaded the driver for the chipset off of dell's website.. i'm learning that you need to install that before any drivers can be installed. that true?
