Let's say I partition my drive. Then, could I put the files of WIN2K in there and do a clean install onto another partition?

Sure, but why? Granted it will be faster than if you installed from a CD but why would you want to? CD = easier. I did an install like you mentioned at work and it went fine. Speed would be the only gain. Then again, you have to take the time to copy the entire CD onto the HD. I say why bother.

It's just... well... let's put it this way: I don't have the CD. But thanks for assuring me! I'll be back after I install my WIN2K

Actually: Is it possible for me to upgrade win98 to win2k?

Sure its possible but just about anybody here in the forums will recommend against the upgrade. There are just a lot of things that can go wrong when you upgrade the 98 kernel OS to the NT kernel. Its a definite pain from what I hear, I am not sadistic so I haven't tried it yet.

The other advantage is that you can slipstream SP1 into the setup files as well as any other updates...

Windows 2000 VIA AGP Chipset Driver Update [Q261606_W2K_SP2_x86_en.EXE]
Windows 2000 Compatibility Update (March 2001 - release 6)
Windows 2000 DirectX 8.0a

This way when you do an install from this location, the final result will have the updates already applied. Just a little cleaner than having \WinNT\$NtUninstallxxxxxx$\ directories.
