Clean & Simple Website: does it work or is it too plain?

My friend and I redesigned our BitWise Chat website, and we have a question: it was designed to be much lighter & more modern, but it is still largely devoid of graphics. The question that we have is: is it too simple to be effective? Or does the plain & simple look work well? Is it too boring to be catchy?

Any input would be very much appreciated.

I really don't care for the colors. My eyes hurt looking at the page. Also, I would create different buttons or something for your links at the top.

Overall the design is good, it's simple and to the point. However, I would stick with just blue and get rid of the purple, and always make text black. Also, try using a more web-friendly font like Tahoma or Verdana.

That's pretty much what I was going to say. Never force any particular text color, just default black is fine.

Current colors look like you're going for a "Hello Kitty" kinda feel.
Assuming you DON'T want that impression...

That layout has no structure.. thats my only complaint, not colour or contrast.

Think of horizontal and verticle margins. Your navagation bar is just in the middle of nowhere...

Some respones:

1) Yes, the colors are a bit flourescent. I will take this up with my partner and we should get them muted, I will reply here when the change has been made and we'll see if you like those any better.

2) 911Paramedic: yes, the screenshots page is rather jumbled, it's a nice break from the visual squares elsewhere.

At least no one is knocking the overall design, of course, maybe the colors are just too bad for anyone to get that far in their thought process. ;)

Have to agree with the others, decent design, but the colors need work.

ok everybody that complained about their eyes hurting... we've toned it down. It should be much better now. If you saw it last night and want to say if this is an improvement please do.

I think it looks pretty good, but still don't like the colors. Just make the text black.

Phuz, what resolution are you using? It doesn't seem like it's floating too badly to us... besides, what about being a little different? ;)

It seems to be that porno warez sites usually have annoying pictures and popups... I don't think I've ever seen such a plain porno/warez site. Sorry but I don't quite understand that comment.
