Clean Shaven People - Recommend an Electric Shaver

After 10+ years of owning a beard (well maybe the first 4 years were only something close to beard), I am now joining the hallowed ranks of the clean shaven.
Having never shaved daily ever, I need some advice.
I need an electric razor.
I have tried 3-4 personal razor in the past and I fucking hate them.

I get terrible razor burn on my neck.

Any shaving advice would be very appreciated.

Damn. My skin burns to hell when I use any electric shaver capable of cutting extremely closely. I just use a Gillette Fusion and call it a day. Only takes me about 2-3 minutes and I am good to go.

I tried the fusion and wasn't very impressed.
By 1-2 my neck is erupted any time I shave. Then I am miserable for about a week after.

I don't know how people do it.

This is true. If I go against the grain, it can burn pretty badly and I'll end up with ingrown hairs.

I tried some really nice shavers and they all simply burn after I am done. Sometimes for days. I don't know why I am so sensitive to it.

I'd love to try a straight razor, but am not sure where to start.

I use The Panasonic Curve ES-8095. Got it for around $70 a few years ago. I change the blades and foil around every 3-4 months.

I use a gillette fusion and the Nivea Sensitive skin shaving cream. The shaving cream in particular has been a lifesaver for my sensitive face.

Electric shavers typically do a worse job and irritate the hell out of my skin.

If you're coming off a beard, your skin might need some getting used to shaving. Don't skimp on the shaving cream and don't go against the grain for a couple of weeks (or ever, if you've got sensitive skin).

A real razor in the hands of a pro is awesome, but less convenient than shaving at home.

What I've found to work best is cut down on the number of blades. Get some decent disposables- Bic and Schick make good 2-3 blade ones. At least what happens to me is if I shave too close, I get horrible burn and ingrown hairs, those fancy gillette ones just fuck me up.

I use an old Mach 3 once a week (still have 20+ new blades for it, loved my dorm food services spending account) and one of the braun self cleaning electric razors (series 3 I think) in between. I find this combo works the best for me but I'm not an overly hairy man so YMMV.

I haven't found a good electric shaver I like. I switch between using a mach 3 a few times week and just using a beard trimmer to keep stubble as short as possible.

Get one of the Philips 3 head electric shavers. You'll never use a razor again.

I can shave faster with a razor than any electric shaver I've ever had. A razor only takes a few minutes from start to finish.

Fusion + good ol fashioned barbasol shaving foam work for my tough as hell indian facial hair.

Electric is like taking a weed whacker to my face, no thanks.

I'm curious to know of decent electric razors too, I think it's time I upgrade mine. It does not go very well especially in the neck. Once you go electric, you never go back. Shave in 3 minutes vs 15 minutes FTW.

Panasonic wet/dry with lather. Don't overdo it trying to scrape every hair follicle off your face, and you'll be fine -- it's the best combination of close and painless (and unskilled). Lather is important -- as lubricant and coolant.

I like the charger unit for its drying, storing and charging without the bottom stress-point, but I don't like buying cleaning solution refills, so I don't (clean it with a run of liquid soap instead).

I've been using a Braun electric for five or six years - it's one that has the cleaner/charger base. I've never changed the blades and I only occasionally put it through the "clean cycle".

It looks like there is now a newer version out - no experience with it of course though it has decent reviews on Amazon.

I've owned a couple electrics with the circular heads on them but all of the ones that I tried like that gave me razor burn. I tried one of the early Pansonics as well with the little lather cartridge built in and it still gave me issues. The Braun with the flat head gives me no issues at all - I don't use any kind of lotion, aftershave, etc. I just turn it on and shave, that's it. No skin issues whatsoever. YMMV of course.

When I say I'm hairy, I make Robin Williams look as hairless as those guys from twilight. I had to shave 3x a day during boot camp or else I got murdered that day. Seriously, once you get that beard off and shace every day, razors are ridiculously better. Use a hair trimmer to get that big beard short and use plenty of shaving cream.

Yeah, that's a good caveat; electric shavers are only good if you're white.
