Seems like all people in this thread are suggesting is you should go out and buy clothes from the most expensive stores and you'll look like a grown up wearing them. Man you people are so god damn materialistic w/ zero sense of fashion. No surprise there, seeing people equate their degree of love by the size of diamond they give to their SO. Materialism = divorce and depression.

It's kind of silly to say you can find classy clothes for cheap and then proceed to not reveal where these bargains can be had.

off saks my friend, off saks

3g's worth of clothes for 1300 after tax = WIN

Oh I know about Off 5th. Terrific place. I do only shop there very occasionally though.

You raaaang?! 😉

First off, 22 is a tough age because you are no longer a teen, but you still should consider yourself an adult.

"Classy" is relative really. I could take you to KMart or WalMart and put you in an outfit that could rival one that I could buy at Saks or Nordsrtom.

It is all in the way you present yourself. No label is going to make you better or classier than the guy standing next to you.
I would not even use the word classy, but rather elegant. You don't have to live in a suit to be considered either one of those things.
It is about your demeanor and the way you feel in your clothes that people will notice.

That is not to say you should walk around with dirty jeans and a sweat-stainded white tee shirt either.

To answer your question, start out by deciding what kind of style, or look you want to achieve. OP, I did not read the entire thread, but are you working now? still going to school?

You are correct, I would stop shopping at PacSun. AE still has nice clothes, depending how you wear them. Jeans should now fit you properly at your waist. no lower. Shirts can stay untucked if in a casual setting.

I always follow the rule of: It is better to be too dressed up, than not enough.

What type of men do you admire? (No, not have a crush on, but in the way they present themselves.) Is there a certain type of style you want to acheive?
Can you post a recent photo of yourself? Please?

Doesn't have to be Off 5th (get the name right 😉), as both Saks and Neimans are having their holiday sales either now or this weekend. I know that Saks has 50% off on Friday, but it might be isolated to their door-buster deals (only good til 10AM or something). I got an email from Neiman Marcus over the weekend and their "After-Christmas" sale is already available online.

But I agree with other people saying that he should learn to walk before he runs. Go to a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Loehmanns, Nordstrom Rack in addition to the department stores and start with some basics. If all you have is PacSun-type apparel, then even an in-house brand like INC (Macy's) will look great in comparison.

Right now is going to be one of the best times of the year to stock up - the economy is down so retailers are willing to give bigger discounts to sell through stock.

Good luck, have fun. And if you're not quite sure about the whole shopping ordeal, bring a woman with you.

I never said anything about the actual QUALITY of the clothes, but I bet you money I could. THat is the thing that annoys me... when people say you HAVE to spend an ass-load of money to look good. WRONG.

And really, who are you to comment on clothes, Stig? You just wear that damn white racing suit and helmet all the damn time.

WHO ARE YOU REALLY?

I think that as far as other men goes... I'm not really sure. I don't really pay attention to celebrities, so I don't know who looks good in that area. I know that a lot of my friends have pretty good taste in clothes, IMO. I might just talk to them about it and see where they shop, and what they think looks good.

Here are some pictures...

Those are about as good as I've got that are recent... hope it helps..??

FYI the saks sale sucked at the flagship.

I definitely plan on bringing a couple of women with me--my girlfriend and also a friend of hers that I feel has good taste.

I went from wearing clothes from Pacsun, AE, Aero, AF...all the time, and now I wear some nicer clothes that I grab on sale at TJ Maxx, Macys, Kohls, and I couldn't be happier.

Not only are they cheaper usually, but they look so much better on me. And yes, they do make you appear older, at least it seems. That and the ladies like it more.

They don't have to have the big name labels too look nice, either.

Ouch...not that I care, I spent enough over my Thanksgiving break on clothes so no more for me until...February? (Maybe just one thing here and there...)

I think you look nice in both of those pictures! The 001 pic is casual and nice..nothing to "teen" about it or anything.

Just remember that not all women have a sense of style. If those girls are telling you to wear something that you don't like/don't feel comfortable in, don't buy it! You will be wasting your money because it will just sit in you closet.

Someone here had a great idea = Marshalls! They have name brand items for signigicantly less. The problem is finding correct sizes. You look like you might wear large/X-large cause you are tall, which is good, they typically have more of those sizez.

And there it is. Classy has little to do with price. Just because you go to Hugo Boss and buy a $1000 combination of shirts, clothes and pants, it doesn't make you look classy. What you have to learn is style.

Hate to say it, but go watch a few episodes of "What Not to Wear" with a man as the subject. If you look closely, you'll notice that all men are told to dress the same, yet they all look very classy and unique (enough).

"Regular Joes" will be able to spot a stylish, fashionable and proper fitting clothes. They probably won't be able to spot the $5000 suit or brand names with cashmere, and 'homme du jour' designer. I'm 22 and shop at AE and H&M for the fit, but am very selective on what I buy. A lot of the stuff in both stores are indeed emo, catered to the 15 year olds. However, they are cheap, and they don't appear cheap (see Old Navy). Going to the 'classier' stores people have already suggested will probably help you with variety.

Just go to banana republic and jcrew and grab some stuff

buckel is kind of urban and not as "classy"

If you do that, and you go on your own, look for a sales guy that is working there that you like the way he is dressed. Ask him. No, this does not make you gay. It is a compliment to him and will help you greatly.

PS... as an example of money not being able to by you class... look at Britney Spears.
