Classical Physics, tips for succeeding?

Try The Feynman Lectures in Physics, Vol 1-2, which contain the best explanations of classical mechanics and E&M that I've ever read (I have a PhD in physics). Feynman covers material beyond what you'll cover in freshman physics, but you don't have to read the chapters that aren't covered in your class (though he might make physics seem interesting enough to inspire you to read the extra material.)

I like this book. I used Tipler for my freshman series, but I think this book does a much better job.

Yeah, intro physics is about as easy as it gets, but it is totally great material, and I had a lot of fun in that class (all sorts of projects that my teacher refused to endorse because he was afraid we would kill ourselves. We didn't).
