🙂 amazing that these are now considered "classics". Seems like just yesterday I would be salivating to get the tape at Sam Goody.

I did like Cube back in the day, Death Cert and AmeriKKK were awesome. I also liked some of Cube's stuff after that, like the album with "Wicked" on it. Beasties were def groundbreakers, and stations actually still play their stuff of classic ROCK stations (94WYSP in Philly is a good example), I don't usually listen to them on a daily basis tho. Also don't really listen to much NWA/Dre/Snoop/Eazy anymore, although if it's on the radio I won't turn it off, they're still bangers. LL was great back in the day, although I don't really listen to much of his stuff before Mama Said Knock You Out.

some good albums named... im impressed... let me add:

slick rick - great adventures of slick rick
run-dmc - raising hell
public enemy - it takes a nation of millions to hold us back

Wow, I can't believe that the "RAP SUCKS" trolls haven't crapped in this thread yet... a welcome change 🙂

I'd like to add

Eric B & Rakim: Paid in Full
EPMD: Strickly Business
The D.O.C.: No One Can Do It Better (I think that's the album title)

And I 100% agree with everyone else's picks so far... I need to hit up Tower and get some things on CD that I used to have on tape!! 🙂 Thanks guys--

haha i was bumping that last night for the first time in ages
Hell yeah Bone's first album was nice, and the album with "First of the Month" was tite too. My buddy had "Crossroads" on a mix CD in his car and I didn't like the song at the time, but now it's kinda tite. Brings ya back...

Lots of good stuff getting posted - it's the rap that I miss. I hate modern rap for the most part.

Check out some "underground" or less than mainstream stuff. It's a lot like the older stuff. Emphasis on rhymes, rhythm, cadence, beats...rather than repeating hooks of the same crap.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree with you that the golden years of Dre, Snoop, Cube and LL were back in the early 90s, late 80s. Their new stuff is unoriginal, uninspired and "poppish" if you know what I mean. Not to say I dislike all of their new stuff but it's not like the good ole days.

Also there are some great ones that I have missed that I've seen in others posts.
Definitely Slick Rick, Run DMC's early stuff (how could I forget that!!), A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory, Slick Rick's Great Adventures and NWA's Straight Outta Compton.

To add:

Big Daddy Kane - Long Live the Kane, It's A Big Daddy Thing
MC Lyte - Eyes On This
Fresh Prince/DJ Jazzy Jeff - He's The D.J., I'm The Rapper <--- An innocent, fun compilation that your kids could actually listen to. No, it's not the stuff of legends but I'll always remember it fondly.
