I've just picked up a T2i & after reading all the camera geeks posting online about getting Class 6 vs. Class 10 for the T2i, I have come to you, the trusted denizens of the Camera forums for your opinions.

If I'm mostly gonna be shooting stills, with the odd 1080p video once in a while, will I regret getting a Class 6?

(The reason I ask is that I can get a class 6 at a B&M tonight for a price comparable to amazon/newegg. I'd have to order the class 10 & wait a couple of days for it to arrive. I do have a Class 2 8 GB sandisk to get me by until then :D )

I use class 6 PNY sdhc cards in my D90 that work flawlessly for both stills and videos. I didn't even know there were class 10 sdhc cards.

If you shoot RAW with large bursts of shots, with a faster card the buffer will clear much quicker. Important if you need the speed.

Also on the other side, when you upload from a Class 10 card, it should finish uploading much quicker.

Class 6 will work fine for now, if you feel the need for something faster just buy another card and you will have one for backup.

The class system is basically a rough way of rating speed. Class 6 means it needs to able to write at a minimum of 6MB/sec.

There was a point where there was no Class 10, and 6 was the highest, so there were several cards released that were rated Class 6 but could actually achieve much faster speeds. I have 16GB "Class 6" card that I can easily write to at 12MB/sec for instance.

I use Class 6 Transcends on my T1i. Works fine for video and for max fps shooting. But honestly Class 6 or 10 isn't going to tell you much. I have a Class 4 microSDHC Sandisk card that benches 18 MB/sec. It's the fastest 8gb/16gb card you can get, yet it's a Class 4. Handily smacks down the Class 6 Transcends.

So it's really tough to say because minimum speeds mean nothing. Nor do old retarded 150x ratings I guess we really need a benchmark database of these cards.

Thanks for the input. I am just gonna get the Class 6 for now. I played with the camera using a Class 2 card last night & it was ok for single shots.

I bought a Class 10 Patriot 16 GB LX SDHC card. I'm using a Class 4 Kingston 8 GB microSDHC card. Why? The Patriot is a slow piece of shit that consistently corrupts images and videos. I notice having to WAIT for regular freaking JPGs to save. Picasa copies pictures off the Kingston at ~15 MB/s. I'm lucky if the Patriot gets >5 MB/s; needless to say, it's going back.
