It's the lenses that are the most expensive part of the camera though.

umm, yes & ...OK?
😉

oh, I guess your main argument was about cost in using 2 cameras for each shot? yeah, maybe, but big productions always use several cameras during shooting, anyway. The editing process after principal shooting often determines which angle is used for each shot, sometimes having several cameras run for each scene anyway, 3D intent or not.

Not that these new Sony cameras wouldn't be cheap (from from it, I'm sure), but the budget for cameras has to be way under what they are paying big name actors for these huge productions.

Well, its been a long time, but its out now. I am going to a 10:30 viewing. Guess I'll be the first of the normal people to see it. Not Imax or anything, but its a decent theater with reasonable matinée prices.
Maybe I'll try adding the poll back in when I get back.

looks pretty hot
but ill prolly wait 4 blueray

I used to say that too, for pretty much all movies. But its been a year since I was in a theater and about 6 months since I treated myself to anything nice. Nothing to do on fridays so I figured I'd have some fun for the first time in a while.

saw it tuesday. it's kind of self-aware. and a little cheesy. not bad, certainly worth a matinée. i've also come to the conclusion that i like the real 3d better than imax 3d, though that could just be 3D being better implemented in this movie than in avatar and alice in wonderland.

Imax is not that much more expensive than regular theaters. Leaning towards seeing it there. Saw Alice in Wonderland there and was impressed.

It's also not that much of a difference from regular theaters. It's not a real IMAX screen. Avatar was the first and last movie I will see in IMAX other than ACTUAL IMAX features.

OK, just got back.

5/10

It sucked. Not hard, but there was a definite factor of non-awesomeness. They tried a little too hard to make it over-the-top Epic, and fell short. As such we are left with a movie that felt like it could have been fantastic, but ended up being a good way to kill two hours.

Audio was overdriven to cover up for the lack of quality content.
Graphics were so heavy on the CGI, I lost the imersiveness and kept getting reminded that Hollywood was trying to blow my mind.
Story was stripped down and poorly told. And I think they changed quite of a bit of the original mythology. I know they changed heavily from the original movie. Again its obvious they were pushing the action. Hera was completely cut out of the story. Apollo had one line and it was meaningless. The other Olympians were seen for maybe 2 or 3 frames.
Acting from the lead was not great. It was obvious he was trying to over act. Maybe cuz he was a young newb surrounded by veteran actors.
Liam Neeson is better suited to Zeus than Hannibal, but he still just didnt come across as quite right.
Most of the supporting cast did a great job, but it still wasnt enough to make this movie great as a whole.
Also, I spent $8.75 for an afternoon ticket, and 10 bucks for a soda and pretzel. Thats probably the main reason I am ticked off. It makes me not wanna go to the theater anymore.

Its a fine way to kill a afternoon, but dont go in expecting to get your money worth, or hoping for something that will be remembered in years to come. Cuz its pretty darn forgettable.

I suspect the kiddies will love it.

Definitely this and fuck 3D.

wow--that ain't it cool review is rather damning towards the rendering in this one; not just the final product, but the fact that some yahoos seriously dropped the ball in deciding that it must be rendered in 3D well after primary shooting. What a fucking disaster.

Just saw it in 3D, hah, though there was little 3D to be excited over.

Not that great.
Entertaining action, definitely.
Everything else was bad as i expected.

And yeah, don't pay the extra $$$ for 3D, it's NOT worth it.

This is no Avatar; it's 3D tacked on poorly.

Well, its official. This movie sucks. In fact I was pretty lenient in my review. Most of the professional movie-watchers have called it something akin to "God aweful".

Also, I found a site saying it had only taken in 4.2 million bucks so far. Which really isnt that great considering this was manufactured and marketed as a huge summer blockbuster. Can anyone find out how much it cost to make?
Cuz when the bad reviews get around the theater draw will drop quickly. I suspect the 4.2 mil will be the quickest money made. After this its gonna trickle in slowly.

Nope, looks to be around $60 million: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ which is decent. Probably the extra 3D cost for moviegoers, which just went up another 20% 🙄

The real question is: How the hell do all of those Tyler Perry movies make so much money? :hmm:

OK, obviously I got bad info.
Looking around it apparently cost 125 million to make. So a 64 million opening weekend probably means it wont be a loss.
Of course, I stand by my position that if the bad reviews keep circulating, the revenue will drop off sharply.

Yeah, I bet a ~60% drop next weekend.
