Clash of cultures in Spain over dogs

Before we begin, I support the idea that everyone has a right to their religious beliefs, but when and where does society have to draw the line?

When you have a group of people that see dogs as unclean animals, what gives that group the right to impose their will upon others?

I guess this is no different then counties in the deep south being dry? Or no whiskey sales on sunday in Texas?

Muslims in Lérida say the presence of dogs (in public) violates their religious freedom and their right to live according to Islamic principles.

Muslims are angered that non-muslims can walk their dogs in public.

But how is this any different then Christians pushing their will upon others? The city I live in just voted to allow alcohol sales in the city limits.

If it makes you feel better, here in Liberal Wonderland, the alcohol laws are worse than in Louisiana and East TN. You know, because alcohol is BAD for you and government must protect you from yourself.

I really should move to New Hampshire once my lease is up, the land where guns and whiskey flow freely.

From the article:

In December 2010, Lérida became the first municipality in Spain to ban the burqa head covering in all public spaces. Women found violating the ban will be fined up to €600 ($750).

It seems like these Muslims have assimilated quite well into the city of Lerida with their banning proposals.

Next up women who show their faces will have to cover modestly and can't leave the house without male permission, islam what fkn a joke.

Worse than Louisiana?

I can go to a drive-thru and without getting out of my car get a poboy sandwich, a daiquiri, a crown and seven and a bottled beer without ever getting out of my car. Hell, some of our bars only shut down between 7am-8am to sweep the floors and clean up.

Open?

I've said it before, islam is simply incompatible with a civilized and free society. It simply doesn't work, because islam (like ultra fundie Christian sects) can't accept tolerance of anything they don't approve of. They also don't believe in free speech.

Do it. This state is fucking terrible.

Speaking of NH, the southern edge is pretty good, thanks to all the people who work in MA but want to live in a free state. As you get into the Lakes Region, it's slowly shifting left with the idiots retiring from MA and bringing their politics along with them.

Fundamentalism of all religions is completely non-functional in a free modern world.

Are the Amish fundies? I'd say so. Yet they co-exist.

I think its a matter of respect.

Religions can co-exist in the modern world, but there has to be mutual respect between all parties.

Its like the group of muslims that bought property in houston, which was next to a pig farm. After buying the property, the muslims wanted the pig farm to move. The pig farm was there first.

WTF, I've been to a number of Muslim nations and they all have ferral dogs running around all over the place. This is just Muslims using our own systems and guilt in order to restrict our freedom and thumb their noses at us.

You don't see this shit happening in France, because they told them exactly what they think of their religion.

This is the result of the failure of multiculturalism and treating religion (which is a choice) like a race.

The Europeans have created their own monster by not sticking firmly to the principles of a secular state and human rights.

Today it is open season on dogs, when they run out of dogs will they start going after gays?

Time to scream bullshit, most Muslim Countries do not have restrictive burka type laws against women, and one of the worst is our Best buddy Saudi Arabia.

Every religion on the planet has their own nutty customs.

On the bright side, people and religions are adaptable to change even if US Christians are remarkably blind to our own stupidities and bigotry.

Dude, I was at the Syracuse/Tulane game at the Superdome Saturday night. As we left, there was a guy selling bud light out of a cooler on the street. Do they even issue liquor licenses in Louisiana? lol.

A few years ago my wife and I were spending a weekend at a casino in lake charles, we went to a grocery store in West Lake to pick up some snacks, and there was a whiskey isle. I was like "holy crap, the grocery store has a whiskey isle?"

We picked up some sandwich stuff, and a bottle of captain morgans spiced rum.

I was similarly amazed when I was first stationed here. Basically all liquor laws are local. So in the absence of a local law, you can stroll into a gas station, purchase a 750mL of Belvedere and walk out the door and on down the street drinking it. There are also a huge amount of drive thru liquor stores and daquiri shop, and the daquiris in styrofoam cups aren't considered open containers if there's no straw in them. Also open containers are like a class who cares misdeameanor here, carrying a fine of ~$50.

Louisiana is a lawless wasteland. It's corrupt as shit too.

Corrupt, yes... it is the Illinois of The South. But, the nation can learn from their near perfect (or lack thereof) liquor laws and great Cajun cooking.

I'm not a big fan of the food, but I do love the booze and free spirit. I'm off to New Orleans again on Thursday. I fully intend to drink my face off.
