Allergists Fear Fallout From Over-the-Counter Claritin

"TUESDAY, Nov. 12 (HealthScoutNews) -- With drug regulators poised to make the blockbuster antihistamine Claritin available without a prescription, a group of allergy specialists today warned that the move could force many patients to buy older, more dangerous drugs."

Their Patent also runs out in two weeks so the generics should be on the shelves soon too :)

YAY! :) I haven't taken it in years, but it really helped me when I did.

It is prescribed like candy, may as well be OTC.

EDIT: I better add that it does not have effects on infectious conditions. What I mean is, how strains of bacteria can mutate and get stronger if antibiotics are not taken correctly. OTC antibiotics would be very bad, and should be regulated more tightly here and abroad. (that stuff is given out like candy too, just because patients demand it and the doctors cave in.)

Sort of. Both contain sudafed yes. But have a little different release methods. Allegra hits faster and harder and you notice the results sooner. Claratin is a longer release drug that says in your system longer.

I have better results from allegra because I only take them when my allergies are bad. The sooner it starts working the better I feel. Claratin takes longer to work so I don't notice the results as easily.

I love Claritin. It's all that's ever truly worked for me in terms of spring allergies.
