clams? love 'em or not?

Darn you! Now I'm in the mood for seafood for dinner tonight, but I already picked up a few pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast.

so... there's always tomorrow. 😀

I remember as a kid, we'd go clamming on the beaches at Cape Cod and a couple other beaches. My mom didn't like clams, so that left lots more for my dad & me to enjoy.

I went clamming for Geoducks once in Washington...those sum-bitches are BIG!

For the most part, I prefer my clams in a nice New England Clam Chowder...no raw snot on the plate, no fried clam strips...(although those aren't bad if they're done RIGHT.)

WTF

Long neck + steamed or GTFO

never tried just popping them on a charcoal grill, take it off when it opens up and eat it? I love the natural sweetness.

Charcoal > gas when it comes to grilling... I have to catch up to the suv drivers in carbon emission somehow.

normally you steam them in salt water
when they open fully they are done

you have a cup of melted butter and a cup of the brine used to steam

dip them in the brine to rince out any dirt, then in butter if you want and eat

true Mainers drink the brine used to clean them with when they are all done
i am a true Mainer

We have little neck clams on the beach outside our cabin and we make a habit of digging a kilo or two whenever we are up there. My favourite recipe is to grill them on the BBQ until they open and then add a few drops of lemon and hot sauce.
