I dont claim anything I donate, my time is to valuable to spend nickle and dimeing myself. I have Dargons to slay. If it wasnt donated it would have been thrown away and you cant claim that either.

That's how I see it too. Of course I don't really donate enough to matter. I might take a different stand if I were rich, and donating tons of resources.

I also use ItsDeductible. I fold and lay the clothes on a fold-able table I have and take a picture of them. I stack similar items together, but try to alternate colors so they're discernible. I write down what is in every picture I take. I burn the pictures to a CD and put the Itsdeductible printout with this CD, my tally sheet from my picture taking, and the receipt from the Salvation Army.

It can be quite an ordeal if you have like 10 large garbage bags of clothes, like 5-6 hours, but I'm not going into any IRS audit with my sphincter all clenched up.

We dropped off 8 huge trash bags full of clothes that we paid for so it only makes sense to get a tax deduction on them.

I'm sure as hell not taking a digital photo of every damn item of clothing. I'll probably make a count of the items and their value based on the Goodwill chart. We'll probably sort through the boxes anyway to see if there's anything she wants to keep so I may take pictures of stacks of clothes but I'd rather not take the deduction than have to photo every piece, that's fucking ridiculous.

I take photos of a large spread of items at a time.

If you keep it less than $250 a charity you don't need a receipt. We have a dozen different drop off boxes around us and just spread it around to keep the paperwork down.
