CL2.5 over CL3

I'm going for an upgrade on my ram, really need it for the video editing and general system stuff.

At the momment I have 512 of Kingston pc3200 with a Cl of 2.5, if I get some cheap ram (Ultra or better Crucial) in a CL 3 am I going to lose alot of speed, or will I even notice it at all?
I know that if I get CL3 my original ram will default to that speed as well
So I was wondering what really is the difference between the two, and should I pay the extra bucks for CL 2.5 over CL3?

😕

If it's a Barton, and you already have CL 2.5 RAM... I would match it with the same latency RAM.

BTW... Are you running that at 333MHz? If so, you might be able to run that RAM at CL 2.0

Would it be better to run it at 333Mhz and set the Cl to 2.0?

Yes.

The reason I suggested to match the origional CL/MHz is because there isn't much difference in price.

Just rebooted, the post says 200 Mhz (DDR 400), I think that's 400 Mhz total isn't it?

Regarding the price Tiger direct has some Ultra Brand 😕 which is CL 3 for $49 while the Kingston 2.5 is about $93.

Do you think I could get the cheap stuff and run that at 333Mhz at Cl 2.0?

P.s Thanks for the help BTW 😀

I've never heard of "ultra" RAM. 😕

200MHz is 400DDR
166MHz is 333DDR
133MHz is 266DDR

If Kingston is working good for you, I'd stay with Kingston. 😉
