Not played yet, But does can you do just an all AI game and watch?
I just finished my first game. I don't know what all the fuss is about--I enjoyed the game although it was very easy. I used to play 4 on Prince and it was a cake walk in 5 even though it was my first game.
Some aspects have been over-simplified but my biggest gripe with the game is global happiness. Combat is fun and limited resources give more depth to the game.
How did you find the AI handles the 1UPT limits? I always find that it's really easy to beat the AI as they can't seem to position troops to get the terrain benefits.
The AI was pretty dumb TBH. I only had to go to war once in the Classical Era--I was mostly fighting off barbarians and building a deterrent navy to keep the Romans out while I won the space victory. He had a stronger army but I didn't do open borders so he didn't declare on me. Then I had the whole continent and another large island just to myself and no one did anything about that. Maybe I need to try King or Emperor.
I don't know why some people don't like this version, because if you liked previous versions definitively you will enjoy this new one.

I started playing Civ5 again recently, after leaving it alone for a long time. I still like it, though it hasn't reached Civ4+BTS yet. (And aesthetically I liked Civ4 more.) I kind of hoped they were working on a BTS-like expansion, but as far as I can tell they're just doing this DLC shit. (Haven't bought any of it.)
If you didn't like it before, some of the patches might help. Also, while previously I've never much been into modding, I've found a couple mods that really add interest to the base game without radically changing it. Look for "unofficial patch + vanilla enhanced", and "city-state diplomacy" (I think someone else mentioned those earlier in this thread somewhere too). I like the changes in those a lot.
