Civilization Revolution

I'm bidding on this game on ebay...How is it? I played the demo and it seemed pretty fun. Please anybody who has played the game post your opinions and experiences here. 🙂

Single player: Meh. Civ 4 is 10x the game Civ Rev is for single player. So much more depth, so many more options. Better tech tree, better combat units, more customizability, bigger world, better terrain generation, better resource management. The list goes on.

Multiplayer: Civ Rev is all about the multiplayer. I've played a lot of Civ 4 multiplayer and it is fun, but being able to sit down and finish a game in three hours is nice.

All in all I'd say there's room for both, even to a seasoned Civ player. Just don't expect much from the single player game.

I have it for the DS (same gameplay as console versions just downscaled graphics) and it's a nice, streamlined version of Civilization, if you love Civilization IV though you'll quickly grow bored of Revolutions' limited scale, the multiplayer is nice but honestly I don't have the time to plunk down 3 hours with strangers, I'm still very satisfied with it because it's a great portable version of Civ that works like a charm for plane trips for example.

I'm not sure I'd get the console version, maybe if you are new to the Civilization series, if not, buy Civ IV and the expansions and stick to that, you'll have more fun.

I agree. I was really looking forward to Civ Rev, bought it on release day, and after playing it I was just unenthusiastic. I haven't finished a full game yet... maybe I'll pick it up again and like it more, I don't know.

I have no interest in multiplayer, so Civ IV is so much better for me. The only upside to Civ Rev is the length of the game, but I just feel like I'm missing so much. I'd rather play one game of Civ IV than 5 games of Civ Rev.

As a Civ player, I enjoyed it. I think alot of people get jaded by it because it isn't meant to be as deep or as expansive as any of the PC versions of Civ. It is an extremely stream-lined and focused version. However, it still has the addictive "one more turn" quality that the others have just without all the micromanagement.

If you play it while constantly comparing it to Civ IV or II (the two best IMHO) then you're not going to enjoy it. If you throw out everything you expect from Civ II or Civ IV, then you can find it to be enjoyable.

Wow...I think its freakin' awesome. I cant get enough of it.

But then again, I have never played any of the previous versions. So it sounds like I would go nuts on the PC, based on the fact that everyone says the previous versions are more robust.

I hear this a lot, and I guess my thinking is that if given the choice between the two, I don't see any reason to pick Civ Rev... so why bother with it? If you're a console gamer exclusively (which I am for the most part, but I do play some PC games that my weak PC can handle), Civ Rev is a fine game. If you're a console and PC gamer, I wouldn't bother with Civ Rev. And if you're primarily a PC gamer, you'll probably hate Civ Rev.

Well, its been a very long time since I have played any type of RTS game (if you want to call it that), so I guess I could consider this my 'training wheels' to get back into it.

The last game similiar to this that I played was Warcraft 3. Which I thought was great. I recently picked up C&C 3, but haven't gotten a chance to try it. It seems like, from watching others play it, that it would be close to the same thing.

Well I primarily game on console now that I got my ps3. Now that I am going back to school I prob. won't do much pc gaming except the ocassional Cod4, but the internet is kind of crappy at my school sometimes..mostly it just lags on intensive multiplayer games. I played the Civ. Rev. demo that is out and I did seem to enjoy it. I never played the regular Civ IV so I don't have anything to compare to it. I do play a similar online text based game called utopia, but I am sort of getting tired at being good at it.
