hey all, just got Civ 4 and i gotta say i am rather annoyed. The game is very laggy and the graphics look very bad on my machine, not sharp at all (3D).

I tried lowering/making the settings better, no luck..

i run an amd 3000/gf6600GT/1gb ram computer, not oced. How can it be so choppy? It feels like a puddle of mud. The graphics issue I dunno either, it doesn't look AT ALL like the screenshots.

i read some ppl have similar issues.. is there a solution?

standard map, maybe 4 AI players?

There's alot of problems with the game. I'm trying to get fixed on forums and such. Like forcing 1.1 shading, and using old drivers.

Did you upgrade to the latest patch? Are your Nvidia drivers up to date? Are your audio drivers up to date? Can you post a screen shot of what your graphics look like?

QFT!

vm: Lag = UI Lag? If so, then learn to live with it. The UI is laggy all the time and you can't fix it

I replaced my nvidia drivers to 71.xx and then forced the Shaders to 1.1 and it works MUCH better now.

yes i have the latest patches/drivers for my audio. ;)

It's still a bit laggy but it's playable at least.

Do you get the same problem in single player? Sounds more like system performance issues than lag.

It's video lag. I don't play MP mode

Civ 4 is known for having very laggy gameplay due to bugs/bad coding/etc.. They know about it.

CIV4 has a patch and the gameplay is not laggy. I've been playing multiplayer games all week.

Oh and just want to say that CIV4 has some of the best RTS multiplayer features I have ever seen. Get this, if you start a multiplayer game and your friend calls you up and asks you if you want to play. You can give him your IP and have him take over one of the computer AIs on the fly. If he decides he really has to leave, he can drop and the AI will then take that computer back over. When people drop from the game, it brings up a Starcraft-like window, but with voting so that you can vote to continue w/out that player, or vote to wait or quit. If you just sit there and wait, the game will continue when that person reconnects. These are features every RTS should have going forward.
