Well the reviews are in and it's not good for the sequel to the best stratagy series of all time. PC Game Review lets users post reviews and Civ 3 sits at a abismal 3.42/5. This score keeps getting lower once users had a chance to absorb the lamness in full.

Something similar happened with Alpha Centari. Great initial reviews then folks noticed the horrid late-game slowdowns, bugs, imbalance and interface lameness.

Firing Squad just gave it a 96%, which kind of makes e wonder what they were smoking. It's alright, but nothing special IMO

I've seen reviews that run the gamut from almost perfect, to extremely low.
Personally, I'm enjoying it very much.
Not as great as some reviews pan it as being, but not as horrible as others put forth.

Jellybaby-
Choppers, choppers, choppers! AC was inbalanced but well done and very fun to play over and over. That is what I feel is lacking with this game (fun). Also Civ 3 lags worse than AC did twards the later parts of the game.

damocles-
I never trust "main" review sites after reading the kickass 10's etc reviews when that monkey training game (black and white) came out. It sucked as far as fun factor but these guys seem to base thier reviews on the initial WOW of graphics. Does anybody care anymore if the game is actually fun and has staying power ala half-life? Reviews of games should be harsh. A simple, should you buy it or not. This is no $7.00 movie. And games are more objectively reviewed than most forms of entertainment. I can give you facts about the game, number of levels, frame rate and system it will run on. What can I say about a movie? The print I viewed had no scratches? This book sucked but the binding was nice? Now I pretty much rely on PC game Review for user reviews which seem much more to-the-point. Some reviews posted there are vauge "that game totally sucked" but many are very detailed in their review (leave out objectivity) and and focus on the fun factor. I tend to focus on those.

CarbonylXP, hey thanks for the review site link. I wasn't aware of that dig. For print mags, Computer Games Magazine has the best reviews. They'll review titles even if their publishers don't advertise regularly, they avoid "punk talk" and don't let previews and hype overshadow why they exist -- to review games.
