Civ3/Nvidia/Opengl Nightmare

(Cross posted to Video forum)

Problem 1: Civ3 has to use opengl (how stupid - but that's a different story) and it forces itself to use the opengl32.dll or nothing.

Problem 2: I used to have an ATI card and installed the ATI opengl32.dll file. When I installed the newest drivers for my current video card (GeForce2 MX400) I only get the nvopengl.dll file

What I have tried: About everything, I think. I have removed all references to ATI and opengl32.dll in the registry. All remenants of the ATI drivers are gone. I have tried renaming the nvopengl file to opengl32. I have tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers then civ3 in various orders and ways. I have even looked for a basic opengl32.dll on the win98 CD and microsoft.com. So far, nothing works. Every time I run Civ3 I get a page fault error in opengl32.dll, and if I remove/rename/etc to the file I get an error saying that it is missing the file.

I have searched these forums as well as many other forums, and cannot believe that there isn't someone that has had a similar situation and found a workaround. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John.

I tried there first, both scanning all of the messages and then posting my own. Unfortunately, in the multitude of posts about how Civ3 was having so many problems with opengl and nvidia, I never did see a solution to the problem, especially the type of problem I am having.

Of course, I sent an email to inforgames support, which I expect was a complete waste of my time.

If you're lucky, you'll get an answer..... in a week or 2.

Yea I really don't expect to ever hear back from them. It sounds like they don't exactly have stellar customer support.

However, I did finally manage to fix the problem. After much head banging, the lightbulb popped and I grabbed the opengl32.dll file off my wifes computer. That did the trick. Stupid ATI file was the problem the entire time. Now we shall see if I have the other performance problems mentioned here....
