Will work for UK steam as well then i guess?

Can someone talk me into civ V? I thought civ IV was pretty decent if massively unintuitive. I enjoyed civ III although for me alpha centauri is the best TBS i have ever played though.

Civ V is good now right? I can build a massive empire and do intercontinental invasions etc yeah? Or should i wait for the expansions like how civ IV was a bit shit until BTS came along.

Its not worth $11.

Uhh.. YES it IS worth $11. Care to explain why it isn't?

The game is great. It got 9.0 on Gamespot, and great reviews on many other websites. It now has a huge number of DLCs and many free patches that made it a much better game. hotseat multiplayer was also added.

The ONLY thing wrong with it, is that it is a game that will eat a huge number of your hours. but then again, no one's forcing you to rush anywhere. It is a game you can play for many, many years.

I bought it, because it will not cost $11 any time soon, and because hotseat is great for when a friend comes over.

I hear you. I wait for the reviews first now. I think this should be worth $11, though I am not sure about $60.
I was one of the few people who enjoyed the game.

I didn't even mind paying $60 for it if not for the fact that it's been like 5 games now that I bought on release day that went on sale a week later and were practically bargain-bin in months.

why bother buying a game at launch if I can wait a week and get if for 20% off or wait 6 months and get it for a dime?

I've played almost everything Sid has put out and have enjoyed them all, but this putrid piece of crap feels like Civ lite. I'm a micro managing maniac, which is not everyone's cup of tea I realize, but CIV V plays like its on auto pilot. I would recommend Civ IV over V any day of the week.

How can they sell these games for that price? I know it's a sale, but most start life at $60 and to be able to drop them that much is mind boggling.

I would guess sales drop fast after 90-180 days which makes them ripe for sales.

Game makers rely on some people to buy their game at the higher release price. If no one did they'd lose money.

The market is segmented. Some customers wouldn't think twice about the amount of money the game goes down in price. Others really like the game and want it fast.

The people who buy it for the higher price help the publisher stay in business and make it more likely similar games an sequels will be made

Got it. The site had a problem with credit cards - demanded everything including secret code, then said can't complete it need things like copies of your passport. Paypal worked.

Yeah, but not everyone has all the free time in the world. Civ games already eat up way too much time, but if you also have to micro everything like crazy, this game probably pretty much becomes your life. At least I cannot see how to avoid that short of not playing at all.

So I'm kinda glad certain things are on autopilot. but then again, unlike you I didn't really put too much time or effort into any Civ game, so what the heck do I know...

I played both Civ III and IV but only for a few weeks.

like someone said, its a paid beta test and DLC marketplace

Care to explain the comparison to a beta test? The game plays well and there are no bugs. As for a DLC marketplace, that's how it is with many games now. Face it, that crap is here to stay.
On the other hand, most DLC packs are usually non essential for the full game experience, and only add bragging rights or some cool looking unit or map or item, none of which will ever give you overwhelming odds over the enemy be it single or multi-player.

maybe I'm just screwed no matter what I do. lol.

I thought I was picking Rift for a song at $9.99, and then it went down to $5 a week later.

For some reason the install in Steam hangs, waiting for Steam to answer a ticket.

Not the first game that's happened with. You can't uninstall to retry, that hangs as well.

Civ V was the first game I bought on launch day in years and boy did I regret it. I loved Civ IV but I just couldn't get into Civ V. I tried it again recently, hoping that the patches would have improved it but it just isn't fun for me. I'm sure there are some people who will love it but I just haven't been able to get into it yet.

As I said before, no demo=no sale. For me to pay more than $25 for a game it needs to have fabulous reviews (but I really don't trust reviews anylonger) or a demo. Seems like everytime I buy without trying over the last 5 years I get screwed and I'm tired of it. Game companies over hype and push out far too much garbage lately.

How much more "fabulous" does it need to be? Universal acclaim isn't considered "fabulous" any more?

I know I almost got civ 5 to play with my buddies and I was almost sucked in for the free DLC but then I started to read user opinions so I tried the steam(?) demo and decided civ 5 is not for me. I think that review sites tend to operate quid pro que (excuse the spelling) good/decent review for more advertising money.
