Anybody find a copy?

EB Games will have their's on Wednesday.
Best Buy's website shows Thursday.

I was hoping to find a copy today.

AU Tiger, it looks like some shipments to retailers have been delayed. I ordered mine from the Gamestop website, it's been "processing" since yesterday morning.

It isn't released until tomorrow to the best of my knowledge... I pre-ordered mine at the local EB and will be picking it up tomorrow. I'm excited to play this one, I hope it'll be as fun as it sounds.

The game sounds amazing. I was a huge fan of Civ2, which I played for years, followed by Civ3, which I play for a couple more 🙂

I think I enjoyed Civ2 a little more, but I still found Civ3 to be a great game. Here's to hoping this one is awesome as well. It sounds great, and I can't wait.

Jesus, when is this game hitting the retail stores ? It's 10/26 and I checked walmart.com, circuitcity.com, and bestbuy.com and no one has it in stock.

My copy shipped yesterday (the 25th). Will be here today.

I got the "presell" edition from ebgames.

Hopefully I beat F.E.A.R. tonight so I can load up Civ4!

I didnt like Civ3. In fact, I havent liked Civ since Civ1.

Me neither. But lately I've really been wanting a new CIV game. Also, as I was playing Pirates! I kept thinking how interesting this engine would be in something bigger than a simple boat game. Now that something bigger is being made with it, I can't help but want to try it.

I just got the last pre-order from one of my local EB's. Had to call 3 of them. The guy at the first place laughed at me when I asked "What are the chances of me finding one if I didn't pre-order it ?"

heh... um... I received my "special" preorder edition of the game, and the fold-out poster tech tree is... IN FRENCH! 🙁

As a Civ first-timer, this is not a good thing. Hopefully they'll replace it for me.

Anyway, I will be checking the game out tonight at home. Can't wait.

This cracked me up. From Eurogamer.net about Civ IV:

"And before we leave, while we?re on a surface level, it?s worth noting that while no Civilization is ever going to turn the head of someone who walks up to walls in FPS then uses the sniper-scope to examine the detail on the textures, it?s by far the prettiest yet."

This game needs to be $40 or less somewhere stat. I don't care how cool it is I still won't pay $50 for it.

Nice response to their mistake.

Popped into a Gamestop today at lunch and was lucky to be greeted by a new shipment and extra Civ 4s for those that didn't pre-order. I just played the tutorial. Eye-popping graphics....I remember the first Civ and it was ugly as sin. This one allows you a continuous zoom feature and there are plenty of animations and graphic enhancements. I've got a 3 ghz machine and 1 gig memory and 6800nu vid card and the thing ran smooth at 1280 lines of resolution. There are plenty of resolutions to choose from. Of course the real test will come when you've got a big map game going and chit going on all over the place. In any case, I look forward to exploring the game further. It is, at it's heart, very similar to the other civs. Similar wonders, techs, etc. Information is streamlined so you don't need to dig as much as the other Civs. All in all, first impressions are *very* positive and I'm one that generally dislikes sequels.

I didn't really have a computer ready for this game, since Civ3 would take 1-2 minutes a turn midway through if I had more then 8 civs playing. I hesitated, & now gamestop doesn't have the pre-order available. I have about $40 in credit there. You can still pre-order from EB, but I don't have any credit, & they won't accept GS receipts, even though they're already listing their stores together on the location search. I guess I'll save some money, play Civ3 a little longer, & buy the collector's edition on Ebay sometime down the line.

So what do the people that have it think? Any problems yet and how does it run on YOUR system (specs)

Went to Gamestop @ lunch today, they had 3 copies. 2 were pre-ordered already. The guy kept saying how lucky I am. 🙂

Anyways, athlon 64 3200+ newcastle @ 2.4ghz 1GB of ram and a 9800pro,
have res. @ 1280x1024 and 4x ansiotropic, not even a hiccup.
Granted I havent gotten too complex yet, but when you battle, it zooms in on your unit in battle, smooth as silk.

So far so good, the music is nice and SPOCK (Nimoy) does the voiceovers when you discover a tech. Back to it.

My issues so far

1) The discs are mislabeled. I will be calling for replacements.

2) To get it to play, I have to insert the install disc, click the link to run it, and then click on the loading screen before it disappears, otherwise the game does not run.

3) I can't seem to alt-tab at all, grrrr.

I'm from the won't pay $50 for a game crowd too, but come on it's civ. 4....I have gotten more than my money's worth out of every single civ game I have purchased for me 45 bux shipped from amazon wasn't a bad deal on the preorder.

I only played the tutorial, but the interface seems alot better. Information is so readily available and there is alot less guessing about how stuff will effect you. I am very excited about this game.

Will update with more later on tonight after I get a good real session in. Anyone toy with multiplayer yet ?

they ruined it. i it doesn't play like a civ game to me anymore. the new controls are awkward, they've replaced much of the text with graphics, and there is too much emphasis on online play.

bastards.
