Civ 4+ Dual Core= No Go?

Bloddy Hell. Loaded Civ 4 on my brother's lappy, it works fine. So I decided to load it up on my Dual Core, installed okay, but when it tries to load, it just hard locks my PC.

I have the X2 drivers installed, the MS hotfix, took my OC back down to stock, just in case it was an instability issue, but still, just hard locks my PC.

setting affnity does not work either?? Crash too fast??

I hope you guys realise that since only certain games have an issue that this is a software issue and is much the game developers fault then anyone.....MOst games have been fixed with the drivers, hotfix, etc....I would boycott the companies too stupid to test there stuff out on the latest cpus before they release...

I'm going to try the set affinity thing right now, but there is no way I can boycott Civ 4. Unless you've played the series, its hard to describe. Its like a religon or something...

i set affinity, otherwise i got a sound stutter. its fine, it just allows you to run your f@h on the other core 😉

Damn, set affinity doesn't help either. Just locks up. I'm wondering if its something with my PC....I've got this copy of XP 64bit sitting here (Working for School Districts has its bennies), I may just reformat and restart...

are you running 64 now?

theres definitely something amiss in your pc as it runs fine on mine. mkept me up all last nite 😛

If you keep having problems, I'll take the game off your hands for 40 bucks shipped 🙂. I have dual core too but I can play on my lappY🙂

It may not be the X2, but the 9800 Pro. Seems everyone(almost) with an ATI video card is having serious issues.

Yeah, I've read about that, but should it be hard locking whilst loading the game like that? New drivers didn't help anything...

as an fyi LM, i just played 3+ hours without setting affinity, leaving my boinc rosetta project running 2 instances in the background.

this is the only game that is giving you trouble?

I was having a little bit of a problem with Lineage II but the MS hot fix corrected that. And It just BSOD'ed my brother's laptop, which I'm on right now. This game is fvcked.

X2 4400 here ... Civ IV runs fine so I'm not sure that it's the dual core processor, especially if setting affinity doesn't make a difference either.

Civ4 locks up just like you described with my 7800gtx box, yet it runs fine on my older x800xl box /shrug

Gah. Still does the same exact thing. I have no idea why, everything else is stable...and, its BSOD'd my brother's totally stock lappy twice. This game is borked.
