Anyone still playing this game? Age of Conan's glaring gamebreaking bugs are starting to take a tole on me. I played CoH a long time ago and was wondering if anything has changed/gotten better.

It's changed and some for the better. But I stopped playing a while ago. Mainly because I didn't have the money to play. :-/

I come back to it once in a while. In fact, I was thinking about paying for another month.

Yeah, they introduced that years ago. Not a lot of people do it though. I used to do it A LOT and always won :)

Ever since NCSoft bought the City of Hero game, the dev team has been expanding from the low of 15, so they have been cranking out new stuff left and right. Lots of graphics upgrades, new powersets, and old powersets crossing archetype boundries. They just added a special villain archetype and have been adding a new zone every 6 months or so. Rumour has it they are going to do underwater next. PVP is not the focus, but there are a bunch of zones for it at different levels/with different rules set up. I found the PVP to be lots more mature than other games: Hardly ever get aced by someone who is a toad. Freedom is still the 'unofficial' PVP server, and Virtue the RP one. Pretty stable population.

If you haven't played since the first year or two, yeah, it has changed a lot. You can often find a 'two week free' special to let you take a look at the new stuff. And your characters are probably still there.

I just wish it had loot..oddly enough, it seems like a big part of an MMO is missing without it.

And I know they have those circle dobbers you can put on your powers and the such but they aren't all that exciting.

I don't have any of my 5 accounts currently active. Last time I played was 2 months ago and for only about 2 days before I unsubbed and wrote this mmo off. Having 11 50's I just have nothing to play for except with my friends who play but they do more roleplay than I can stand. Glaring bugs in AoC.. sheesh there are so many bugs in City of Heroes/Villians still around. Sound still stutters and they have problems with ati hardware. PhysX support is worthless and the controllers are STILL better tanks than tanks if you know what you are doing. My accounts rest in peace, don't think I'll ever resub again.

Indeed - there is loot. In fact, I found myself scratching my head yesterday after I found an enhancement I would like to get for my latest character - you can buy a premade enhancement from someone else, or buy the recipe from someone else, or wait patiently until you get that recipe as a drop. I'm not that patient, but when I saw how much the enhancement was going for (ranging from 1.5mil to 10mil depending on level), I looked at the recipes. I ended up buying the recipe for 111,111, only to find out that one of the components used to craft it now costs in excess of 2 million on the market. So off to killing things I went... and guess what - I got one of the items I needed! If I can score a second one, I can craft the second recipe I bought and sell it for about 4 million and make a tidy profit on the whole ordeal.

I remember when the "auction house" came out for the first time... Oh my god. Stuff was selling for 2mil easy. X_X I was kind of low level at the time, because I made a new account. (or switched servers, I forget) Found some cloak and BAM made tons of influence. :D

Wish there was still the ninja power level. :( The game sucks for me without power leveling. Get's too damn boring redoing the same thing a 1000x.

Sounds like a Mu Vestiment. They went down a bit in price these days - can be had for about 800k on my server (Virtue). Thing is, tech salvage was always cheap until this last update. They added very rare level 50 recipes now, which need several pieces of rare tech salvage. They changed the council drops, and added Cimeroa which drops arcane salvage diluting the market. So now, a rare tech salvage like photonic weapon which used to sell for barely 20k two months ago now fetches 600k easy. Platinum used to sell for about 20k, now sells for 2 million. Conversely, arcane salvage took a hit - Pangean Soil which used to command almost 6 million at one point now sells for 2 million. Even common arcane salvage like Spell Scrolls and even the ever popular luck charms have gone down 50% or more. Conversely tech salvage like Inert Gas which you could hardly ever sell for more than 50 influence ... I sold several for 60,000 each a few days ago.

Things change a lot in the game, it's very dynamic and very interesting.

I've played CoH for a couple months after its initial release. Never stayed too long for CoV release. I remember having a maxed out scrapper but I also recall the lack of actual "end-game" content. Saved for some high level instances that rarely anyone would do.

What's there after hitting 50 (if that's still the max lvl) for CoH? I know in WoW, hitting 70 just means you get to start playing the game and begin the grindfest for PvP gear or countless hours in raids.

If any of you are thinking about coming back to CoH, I'd be more than happy to invite you back so we both get 15 free days ;)

I played it for a few months before COV came out. It was fun but I got bored whenever I wasn't playing with my friend. It was way more fun than WoW IMO.

I played this game at release for awhile. I was the one making all the OMGWTFBBQ" templates for characters that got nerfed over at the official forums. I had alot of fun with my original character a fire/ice tanker who could herd 400+ mobs in the eden and what not and just lay waste to them all without batting an eye. Made a few other chars that were quite nasty at the time like a fire/rad controller. Can you say 30-60 fire imps out all the time?

Then I quit and resubbed when CoV came out. My hero chars were decidedly nerfed pretty badly. I made a dark dark brute and had some fun. Just got boring real fast without feeling "herioc" anymore. The fact that the game once allowed just abotu any archetype to take on hordes of mobs if built right was what I liked in the game. The fact that you get your butt handed to you by more than a few mobs at once is no longer fun for me. In fact the last time I log on, my level 50 fire/ice tanker couldn't take on a single level 50 nemesis boss. Not that it could kill me, but it was pointless sitting there for 15 minutes and his health tick so slowly off I might as well be watching paint congeal. So I respec some powers around, did a little bit better, but it wasn't enough to make me feel like a "hero" anymore. More like a slightly stronger 80 year old, grand mother with a heavy purse. Maybe the purse has a brick in it I guess, but that's how powerful my characters felt.

Unless that has changed, and the dynamics of customizing your character have changed, the game was just whack a mole over and over.

Yeah, I hear that. As a long time player - I was pretty disappointed when it turned into City of Mediocre People in Tights and Masks. Having a fire/fire blaster take on a throng of even level minions and lt's and wipe them out in 3 or 4 shots made me feel heroic. When they took that away, well...

However, I have found the love again. All it took was time and the right builds. I love my warshade - being able to tank, blast, nuke, or control is nice. He's not the best damage dealer, but he can dish it out when he needs to.

Then I went for a concept build - dark/elec defender. I call him my "Deftroller" - he's got a good helping of holds, other softer control methods, debuffs, heals, and damage - and two pets to boot.

I have been recently been working on my latest creation - an Illusion/Storm controller. Illusion is nice, has some decent damage with a twist. I can tank thanks to phantom army, and have wicked debuffs in storm. My controlling abilities aren't great, but what I lack in control, I make up for in damage - yup, I don't have the same burst damage as a blaster, but I have fairly heavy damage output. No better control than dead mobs. Oh yeah, and I can heal a bit too.

I enjoyed my dual blades/willpower scrapper too - seems a bit overpowered actually.

Again, it's all about how you want to play. I enjoy playing more when there's a goal or a team, which is why I play CoH with my brother-in-law and sister. It's more of a social game than anything else.

I like the game overall but when it comes to PvP. If you are not lvl 50 and have the most outrageous enhancements, it's time to get owned. :( I think level 50s keep their high level percentage increases with the down-leveling too. Because I swear, they do 500 damage with the weakest attacks and just rage all over the place when they are only level 30. It's just rage, rage rage and more rage. Game is very imba in that way.

I said it before, but I'll mention again that the CoV Mastermind may be the most fun class ever in an MMORPG.

Everybody knows about the lack of end game. But the lead up to lvl 50 is fantastic. I actually really like the PhysX engine and how enemies go flying and tumbling after they die.......especially when you get the odd one that gets it's foot stuck on a rail and dangles there or falls over onto his gun so it props him up...lol.

I'll tell you that I think there may be more to the game than most people ever discover. I was with some group in the high teens and all of a sudden this guy does something and this huge blimpy being with an elite boss rating rises up out of the ground and starts kicking all the mobs' asses and we're all like, whoa! Turns out there's this PvP area where you do this meteorite quest and at the end you get the capability to summon these blimpy things up to five times to aid you. None of us except one guy knew about it and he was leading us around. Stuff like is there and practically secret.

Geez, I've been playing close to 4 years... there's PvP in this game? :)

Seriously, I only went to a PvP zone once... and all I did there was PvE stuff since I didn't see a soul out there.

What makes the Mastermind the most fun? I just started playing a few days ago, and I have one of them. Pets are fun, but it takes a long time to kill people.
