City boy in the country

I live in small town, right. everybody here owns a truck, has guns and walk barefeet everywhere(not really). they're rednecks. well a coworker (redneck)showded my yankee ass how ta hunt[/redneck accent]
I said shit, im here out in the country, lemme do some country stuff before I move back. so that morning, he handed me his rifle and we simply went into the woods looking for squirrels. 5 mins into walking into the woods, he puts his fist up and I stop. he points up in the trees, and sure enough a fucking squirrel hopping around from tree to tree. this is my first time shooting a rifle, I got into a shooting position and my friend asked me how did I know this position, i told him, video games haha. anyways I took the shot and got him right in his gut. not a good way to go out. had to slam the squirrels head to a tree. went back home and he cooked it up southern style and I ate it. that guys, is my first and last time i will ever eat squirrel. next deer.

yea, my friend showed me how to skin and cook it. he put the squirrel in a ziplock bag with cornbread powder, eggs and milk. deep fried the shit out the fucker and came out OK. but i wont be eating another squirrel any time soon. infact, I was drunk when I ate the squirrel. I thought I was going to assimilate the powers of a squirrel if I ate it. which didnt work out to great because I tried to scale a tree and jump from limb to limb which = fail. realizing I didnt harness squirrel powers, i just assumed I was bear grylls made a couple knots, did a little jumping over stuff and finished eating the squirrel. did I mention I was drunk at the time? 😛

There are large cities in the south (Atlanta, Louisville, Nashville, Littlerock, Memphis, Charleston, etc).

Plenty of Yanks hunt (hell that's all there is to do in some northern states like Vermont, upstate NY, etc).

While I can't speak for other states, but Atlanta isn't really considered part of the south. Most true southerners (rednecks) treat it like the North. We visit vary rarely and are uncomfortable the entire time. Last time I went I only saw 3 fights and 4 drug deals. That was within an hour.

BTW GRATS on your squirrel!

Deer are much, much, much better eating then squirrel.
One of the very few things I miss from living near my father was the free butterfly steaks, summer sausage, and hot sticks every year.

Georgia has a total population of 8.2 million people.

Atlanta metro area has a population of 5.3 million people.

More Georgians live in Atlanta metro than the rest of the state so your argument that they aren't true southerners is moot since they are a majority of the states population. Rural people are the minority in the state.

I live in Tennessee (capitol of the South). We have a total population of 5.7 million people. Tennessee has FOUR large metro areas (Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Memphis). 3.9 million people are living in these large, urban and modern metro areas.

Rednecks make up a small part of the south, just like they do in the north.

Deer is an awesome meat. I haven't had squirrel though. My brother sometimes gets them with his bow and arrow and his father in law cooks it. I wouldn't be afraid of eating it if I had the chance.

I'd be leary of shooting a rifle, I imagine you were using a .22lr, up into the air. Use a 12 guage, the shot will disperses and not carry more than 100-200 yards.

I guess it depends on where you are. You're right that a .22 can travel rather far. You can also use a good pellet gun for squirrel.

I like squirrels; they taste good.

I heard doves were good eating also, but then I also heard squirrels are good eating also. but doves are birds afterall, so it must taste better than squirrel. The same friend who took me to shoot the squirrel, also recommended me to buy a bb\pellet gun and shoot doves. they are plenty of doves at dusk. so I went out and bought a pellet gun. seems the doves noticed this and never show up on my property any more, lol. no joke, ill wait outside with my pellet gun and wont see any doves, but when im heading out ill see those fuckers everywhere.

according to him, he says that hunting rock doves require no license. dunno about squirrels if they require permits\license. we hunted on his grandfathers property though.

12 gauge for squirrels? Jesus you wouldn't have anything left to eat. I'd take a 410.
