Kinda random question... anybody know what kind of hardware it would take to have a Citrix Presentation Server providing Internet access using Internet Explorer to about 1,000 clients? Not talking about bandwidth, but the actual hardware the Citrix Presentation Server runs on.

I believe Citrix has some sizing tools or at least some equations on their site. But IE's kind of a mixed bag because CPU and memory usage varies extremely wildly with it depending on the site(s) that you're visiting.

Hmm... well... are we talking one or two stout PowerEdge servers? Or a whole rack of them?

If you buy Dell you'll need at least 3 to make sure that one's up all of the time. =)

dont quote me but if I remember right it was something like 50 users per server (with capacity to handle 100 max). So yea you are looking at a humongous server farm of 10 (maxxed out ) to 20 (recommended) servers to handle 1000 (concurrent) users.

Those numbers are probably for more than just IE since most places that pay for Citrix also want to run Office and probably some crappy custom apps.
