The old myth that there is not enough land for landfills is just that: A bullshit myth. But nice try. Keep spouting the same nonsense scare tactics.

At our present rate of trash production, it would take a landfill with the area of only 35 miles square and 200 feet deep to store 1000 years worth of America's trash. We are NO WHERE NEAR running out of space. But I see you fell for the propaganda in Wall-E. Isn't that special?

Limited resources + growing global population. Recycling is the only method od sustainable lifestyle.

How much plastic can you make with no crude oil ?

Well, the more people recycle, the less trash there is and less landfills will need to be built. The money saved from building less landfills can be used to fund other stuff. Isn't that a win win for everybody?

With that said, I don't think people should be punished for not recycling, however.

Scare tactics? And you aren't using them? Come on man, this is the usual libertarian slippery slope scare tactics, like almost every thread you start. So far as I can discern JUST from your faux news article, this tagging thing is only non-voluntary in one tiny part of one American city, because the city council voted for it as a pilot program. Aren't we getting just a little ahead of ourselves here?

If Fox News were supporting any sort of libertarian position, they would point out the obvious solution: quit having public garbage disposal and move to a private model. Then, people pay for trash removal and get paid for/get free recycling service. The article clearly states that paying is a proven method for improving recycling - who would have guessed that a financial incentive could be used to solve a problem?

Quiet you, we can't have any rational conversation here. Libertarians are evil and want to destroy the world, didn't you know that? The free market will never solve anything.

Now please, stand aside while the SS checks your garbage can for potential recyclables.

The Authoritarian Socialist left strikes again.

It simply amazes me how the Constitution and Bill of Rights is so easily thrown out with the trash these days... and by the very same people who call themselves "liberal."

Big Brother is becoming a reality, and the left is bringing it on... all funded by your stimulus dollars...

You should be thrilled, they are raking in the bucks

Not only do you link dumb shows you are dumb yourself. 35 miles by 35 miles as described in this garbage of program would be 1,225 square miles.

The cute minute long rant about how using a crying Native American is hypocrisy when people complained about the redskins is hilarious considering the clip they showed was from the 70's or something which was before the recent PC movements against sports teams having Native American mascots.

Penn & Teller is such useless vitriol, they pick tiny things to harp on and do almost no research themselves.

In these clips they present no numbers and no true comparisons of energy efficiency of garbage disposal + creating items from scratch versus recycling. They depend on brainless simpletons just assuming they are telling the truth because the king douchebag talks in condescending tones. Congratulations on your roll in life amused.

Good.

Better if it reduces the cost of waste management to folks who get with the program. The best way to eliminate prohibited materials from the waste stream is to start at the source.

Even better when it further constrains and reduces landfill development.

Can I get a show of hands...

How many people who support this had problems with the recent wiretapping hoopla?

So now do we get to factor in the man-hours + transportation & bureaucracy costs of the trash police as more resources spent to recycle?

Act???

Are you serious?

You, and the other authoritarian socialists have absolutely no respect for rights and freedoms if the outcome follows your agenda. Period.

And my reply to him was all his post deserved. He posted no information and one huge logical fallacy. That's all the left on this board does is poison the wells rather than address the facts if the news story comes from (gasp) Fox news.

Sorry, that doesn't even work as parody of the my position in this thread.

The article author does not offer that viewpoint. It quotes someone as saying that.

In any event, it doesn't blunt the purpose of selecting this topic or reporting it in the way that Fox reported it. It's about influencing elections by stoking fears of fascist "trash police" soon being on every street corner, prying into our inner most secrets. Any local story which can be spun into the usual "slippery slope" fearmongering will do.

The fact that's it's supported in muliple cities by stimulus dollars makes it a bit more than local. In fact, it makes it look like a pilot plan for something being considered nationally.

Keep poisoning the wells if it makes you feel better. The fact is, these programs have the blessing of our current administration.
