Cities ban teenage trick or treaters

So everyone's rights are being infringed because some dumb wise and beautiful woman has a retarded opinion?

The ordinance also prohibits those over 12 years old from wearing masks in public any other day of the year.

wat?

Excluding teens from trick-or-treating could make it more appealing to do other, less desirable, things, he said.

no shit eh?

How do they plan to enforce this? Trick or Treat permits?

Schow me your paperz!

And if they don't plan to enforce it - why make a law?!

I gave up handing out candy in my neighborhood 3 years ago...most of the trick or treaters were too old be trick or treating (IMO) and they didn't even have costumes...just pillow cases full of candy...and i won't even get into if they were here legally...

After I stopped handing out candy, I turned my yard lights and downstairs lights offand yet they would ring the doorbell and knock for a few minutes (instead of once or twice and then leaving).

OMG no candy for those damn mexicans

From TFA (bold emphasis mine):

John Womeldorf, a real estate agent in James City County, Va., has two sons ages 12 and 11. He said his 12-year-old is bummed that this will be his last year to trick-or-treat, but he looks forward to scaring kids who come for candy next year.

Womeldorf said he doesn't remember any such rules as a kid but see why they might be necessary now.

"It is a different world than I grew up in so I guess we do have to have certain things like that in place to be enforced if needed," he said.

I really hate this attitude. Human nature hasn't changed in the past 20-30 years, and it's baseless fear like this that leads to restrictions created out of fear alone. It's the same attitude that creates "helicopter parents" who are too afraid to let their kids play outside.

i kinda understand the reasoning behind the law.

last year while taking my kids (at the time 3 and 7) they were getting ran over by kids i would say over the age of 14. sorry at 14 you really shouldn't be doing it. most weren't in costumes anyway.

it's a child's holiday for gawd sakes. Past generations realize this. You guys just don't want to grow up. You want to stay in the school yard your whole life. Next you'll want to climb back into the womb. Not a bad idea. Then most of you could be aborted.

lolwut?

Adults have more fun on halloween than any other holiday and it's not because you get to act like a kid. You get to dress up and go party with chics in hot slutty costumes. If you think it's just for kids, you're doing it wrong.

Nothing new, many cities have similar ordances for age limit; not really a problem though unless it's a bunch of really upper agers going around acting like idiots.

Stupid. Sure, it's a child's holiday, but anyone should be able to go trick or treating, even adults, as long as they actually put effort into costumes. It's all about having fun, who cares if they are young, adult or old. This is about as stupid as that town with no thong beach policy.

Agree mostly, except that I believe that it is in fact a different world. But not because people changed. It's because we put thousands of stupid new laws into place every year that make society more confrontational.

I'll admit that there's something weird when I open the door...and the trick-or-treater is taller than me...

We get tons of Mexican kids here every year. They're not from the neighborhood...they get dropped off by vans and such...to loot the neighborhood...

The last several years, we just go out for dinner, do a bit of shopping, then come home after 10.

It's getting so that $30 doesn't buy enough candy for trick-or-treaters anymore.
