Today I received five - five! - credit card solicitations from Citibank. All in one day's mail!

1. Platinum Select card, 0% APR until 5/06, nothing else special
2. Divident Platinum Select, 0% APR until 2/06, cash back feature
3. Diamond Preferred Rewards Card with "ThankYou Network". 0% APR until 2/06, instant $100 gift card. Weaksauce version of cashback, uses "points" instead.
4. Identical to number 3, but in a different envelope!
5. PremierPass Card, 0% APR until 2/06, incredibly complex "points" system for air miles. Apparently for calculus majors only.

Now, I already have a Citibank card (number 2 above, in fact). Why offer me the same card again? Do they want me to take a second account, so I can double my $300 yearly cash rebate? Well, perhaps I'll accept their generous offer! :gift: I can only conclude their computer system has flipped out and decided to send me one of everything.

I'd hate to have to pay their postage bill.

I read somewhere that the appropriate revenge is to take all the crap they sent you (inserts and all), shove it back in the postage-paid envelope and mail it back to them.

Plus you'll be helping the government since I don't think USPS collects money for postage paid envelopes unless they're shipped

Call CitiBank customer service and request a "product change", explaining you currently have xx card but want xx card.

I did it with no problems.

get diamond preferred reward for the $100 gift card.

there is a cap with citi; you can only have 3 cards from them. I have 2 cards from citi and they didn't send me any invitation for a long time already.

I have trouble with a bank that tells me that "There's more to life than money."

For the snail mail spam, just buy a cheap shredder.

I got a $106 check from Citi Dividend a week ago. I guess I can put up with junk mail.

I enjoy doing this. I've got a postal scale so I can get it as close to 1 ounce as possible. Sometimes I'll take a crayon and write cryptic messages on the stuff with my off hand, just to entertain whoever might see it.

Since I have the solicitation right here, I'll answer this one.

You get cash back rebates as follows:
5% on purchases at supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores
1% on all other purchases

There are a couple other frills which amount to nothing... such as $5 cash back on balance transfers (big deal).

Up to a limit of $300 per calendar year. You can request a check any time after you get up to $50 in earned rebates.

Now if you're wondering why supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores get 5% and not 1%, it's because they are hoping that will entice you to carry this card all the time, and therefore use it all the time, even when you aren't getting the 5%.

I like how they keep sending me "convenience checks" that I wish were never printed and circulated. Every time I get an envelope full of 'em it says "last chance". God how I wish it were!! :)

It's worth mentioning, since I always find there are people unaware, that if you have been a good customer for a period of time it's often possible to get a lower interest rate simply by calling customer service and inquiring. Let's face it, the competition is high, and they are right to assume that you may be interested in transferring your debt to some cheaper lender. I noticed that my rate had crept up a couple of points over the last few years so I called them up recently and asked if I was getting the best they could give me, and it got knocked from around 14% down to 10.74%.

Citibank acquired Washington Mutual (the bank) and that gave them more money for useless junk mail and such. :)

there's a number you can call to get taken off of those mailing lists. I don't recall what it is because it was so long ago, but I used it and the deluge stopped.

When was this acquisition?

I supposedly have card #2 , but I can't see any type of rewards accumulation. :|

Edit:
I swear I had #2, but I guess they switched me to #3. Bastards.

Capitol One is who wears out my mailbox.

Between my wife and myself we get AT LEAST 12 a month from them, usually more.

I would apply for #2,3, and 4 Take the $100 gift credis and throw out the card and #1 sounds like a great way to finance a new computer, pay it off before the Interest kicks in and collect some cash back in the process.
