A friend of mine works for "Primerica - a Citi Company" and just hosted a career night in the city I live. The town has been crippled by automotive as it's tied heavily to the big three. Unemployment is some of the highest in the province, income levels and real estate values are dropping like crazy...

...yet Primerica is hiring "100-200 employees in the next year" for a city of 50,000 people. Is this business as usual? What the heck is going on with these financial institutions? Anyone seeing the same thing where you live?

Is this in Canada, Australia, or New Zealand?

Primerica is a pyramid scheme. They are ALWAYS hiring because they do not pay you anything and in fact you have to pay them to fully get up to speed, then your income is all commission based.

Google primerica. I actually "interviewed" with them back in 2001. BTW, they will interview an armless chimpanzee. I didn't know at the time that they are a joke and wasted quite a bit of time at that "interview".

Hiring? That probably depends on whether you consider not being Paid bupkis ubtil making a Sale a "Job". Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not a "Job" in the traditional sense. It's more like being a Private Associate, they provide Product, you provide Sales, you get Paid. Since most of their Product is Insurance and Mutual Funds, I suspect Sales will be very slow.

It's basically like saying Ebay is people to put up stuff to sell.

LOL, I "interviewed" with them as well back in 2002. I was actually job hunting at the time and the guy on the phone said he'd found my resume on Monster or wherever and wanted to meet; he made it sound legit. I showed up at his "office" and there were 30 people already there. Some interview. If you want me to join your MLM at least be up front about it.

yea. i dont understand how they haven't been shut down yet. I went to a "seminar" back in 2003 when I was looking for a job right after college. The seminar was in a nice hotel in nyc, but i could tell right away that all the presenters there are nothing but salesmen - slicked back hair, expensive suits, gold watches - just screamed "hey if you join, you can be like me too." Too bad they leave out the fact that majority of people who join them end up quitting within a year.

and you're right about them hiring armless chimpanzees. There were some people there in the group that looked like nyc homeless people. AFAIK, all guests were there by invitation only
