ok this is the deal.
I got my aironet 350 card working perfect in redhat 7.3.
from what i can tell/read the kernel that comes with 7.3 has built in support for the aironet cards.
i stuck the card in the pcmcia slot and beep beep the card is installed and working.
i decided to download the cisco aironet llinux drivers so I could use some of the utilities that come with it.
basically i wanted to use cisco's ACU.
ok now to my problem =\
im trying to get the aironet card into rfmon mode also known as monitor mode. by default the card goes into ESS mode also known as Infrastructure mode.
in the ACU utility there is no option to change the cards mode into RFMON/monitor mode.
from what I have read I have to change the configuration of a certain file called Config that is located in /proc/drivers/aironet/eth0/
In that file I have to replace the curret "Mode: ESS" with "Mode: rfmon"
when i try and do that with pico or vi I am unable to, i get a wirte error/invalid argument.
so i decided to bring down the eth0 interface thinking that would then let me write to that file.
command: ifconfig eth0 down
no luck, still cant write to that file.
so i decided to bring down the whole pcmcia support.
command: ./pcmcia stop
when I did that the whole entire directory structure of ..../aironet/ disapeared.
so there goes that idea to change the file. hehe
i start everthing back up to how it was.
i continue to read some howto's on ways to get the aironet card into rfmon mode.
i came across one webpage that said to echo the command into the config file.
command: echo 'Mode: rfmon' >> Config
I didnt get any errors back when I did that so I thought i maybe worked.
but when i more the Config file the mode is still being displayed as "Mode: ESS"
MY QUESTION(S) IS hehe
is the card actually in RFMON MODE even though its being displayed as ESS in the Config file.
is there another way to do this?
did i not compile something correctly?
Basically any insight you guys can give I would appreciate it. =] tHanks for your time
