If I get this AP, do I need a Cisco switch for this to function with my existing non-cisco lan?

No you do not need a Cisco switch to use the AP. It will work with any ethernet switch that you buy.

dont get the 1100 . If you are going to spring for ciso get he 1200 youll be much happier
