So I got this thing from a freind, I have no use for it and it is currantly in the FS/FT forums looking for a new home.
I am curious though, do any of you guys use these access points? Are they decent? are they a "must have" item?

Here is a newegg link to the unit Cisco Aironet 1100 wireless Access Point

I only have one computer in my house, do I in any way have a need or use for a wireless access point?
I am getting a second machine in the next few days, would that make a difference in needing one and not needing one?

Thanks fellas

It depends on how old it is. All the 1100 series I have are "802.11B" only models. If you have a B only, it's not worth much. If it's G, it's not a bad AP. I'm not sure what the radio in those are rated at, but they usually have good distance and speed. They also support EVERY auth model under the sun, and all encryption except WPA2 (not sure if it does or doesn't). If you plan on having a laptop or wireless device, these can be very nice, otherwise it's just a paperweight.

Thanks, it is the 802.11g type, I have a link here if you were intersted. I am going to get a wireless car for a computer that I have kicking around in my closet so I can tinker around with it.

again, thanks for the reply.

At work we have roughly 50 installed, they work very well, very customizable. We are not going to be upgrading to G anytime soon due to the fact of cross talk with other hospital equipment.
