You need to clear the configuration file.

You can do this with password recovery where you boot into rommon, change config register to not load config file, then you can erase the config...

you'll boot with a clean config and can then change the config register back.

or quite simply just enter "shutdown" on the interface bri0/0.

how can i clear it if i can't type anything in hyperterminal? this message just gets written over and over, and if i hit enter, nothing. also, when it very first boots up, there is a line where it says to hit enter to continue, but i hit enter and nothing happens, then it goes through this config.?

when the system loads up, and assuming that these messages are taking place while the system is already booted up, just type "undebug all" and press enter, regardless of whether it appears on the screen.

do i type this in as it is loading or after it starts the loop? would i receive any info in hyperterminal if my cable was incorrect? what i did was made one end 568a arrangement, then setup the wires in 568a but on the second end i flipped the connector over. the cable ends are a mirror image.

there's your problem.

you need a rollover cable NOT 568a.

just get a hold of a rollover cable. You learned your first lesson - NEVER make your own cables.

a rollover cable looks like this
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
||||||||
8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

i flipped the connector over on the 2nd end and when i put them together i do get 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 on one side an 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 on the other. a buddy of mine has an acutal cisco rollover cable, i will get that sometime next week. when i use my cable test on the cable i made, it shows all of them are reversed

this is the instructions i used:

Rollover Cable -

A Rollover cable is used to connect between a computer and the "Console" port on a Router to allow programming of the Router. To make a rollover cable you arrange wires as per a standard patch lead of either type "A", or "B" with the jack on one end "rolled over". ie you turn the jack upside down and then insert the wires. (NOTE: you only 'flip' one end, not both!) Commercial rollover cables are usually made from flat cable to avoid confusion. If you cannot find flat cable you should use YELLOW cable when making rollover cables.
