CISCO 1 class project question

Read this and tell me if the HUB acts more less like a Patch panel in the wiring closet or what?

"It is essential that the Hub be located near it (POP), to facilitate wide-area networking and connection to the internet."

Why does a hub have to be there? can't you attacth a Patch panel directly into the router?
me lost I know this is a basic question but a I a basic kinda guy.

thanks in advance

Ok a HUB is a networking device it works in the layer 1 of the OSI model, a Patch panel in the wiring closet is where all the wiring from each workstation end in the
wiring closet. Without a hub or a switch the most u can do is connect 1 network device to another(i.e. 1 PC to another PC or 1 PC to a network printer and using a
cross patch cable) in other words can make a network with more than 2 network devices without a hub or a switch that r use from Local area networking. U can attach the router
to the patch panel but it has to end in a hub or switch.

There are two definitions of hub - One, the physical device that you plug Ethernet cables into. The second is the center of a LAN/WAN - i.e, the "hub and spoke design" where you have one core for your network (the hub) with connections linking it to all of the remote sites (the spokes).

Sounds like your discussion is referring to the 2nd, not the 1st.
