It was stuck in the omnibus bill and in essence opens the door to further surveillance on US citizens. Obama could have vetoed this and protected our privacy (as advocated by much of the Silicon Valley tech companies), but alas he didn't.

I figured as much.
Doubt it was a coincidence they did it on the same day as a premier of a mega movie. They assumed citizens would be distracted.

I bet a whole dollar that despite this, Obama will be remembered as a good president years from now.

Of course Obama didn't. He's 100% pro NSA, Patriot Act loving Neocon. He is Bush's third and fourth terms. Hillary would be a 5th term.
They are the pro government pro war establishment party. They are the ones who envy North Korea and strive to make us so.

Obama doesn't have a line item veto. So whoever in Congress stuck that one into a must-pass legislation, you can thank them.

Damned Obama! Lucky for you the Republican Party stands against these kinds of shenanigans.

no surprise I think everyone knew they would keep at it until it passed. Though it's telling they had to sneak it into something.

His campaign rhetoric stopped in 2008, you can stop pretending now. Liberty is some annoyance that must be disposed of. Neocon 101. Obama attacks Snowden and you think he'd veto crap like this?

It's what he wants, and as long as you make excuses and fail to fight for it, it's what you want as well.

Obama doesn't write laws, you can stop pretending now. Congress is the one that put it into a must-pass legislation. They could have sent it to him standalone and then we'd find out if he'd veto it or not. Why didn't they?

He could have sank the bill and said start over, he didn't.

If it was that easy there are a dozen other things that wouldn't be in this bill.

He's got a veto pen, why isn't it that easy?

He's got the authority to pardon, why is Snowden still in Russia?

Why is it such a stretch to think Obama is for this type of legislation?

Suprised this isn't being discussed more. Another article.

The worst part about this—beyond the impending privacy shit show—is that CISA isn’t going to make America more secure. What it will do is create a centralized portal of information on millions of Americans—exactly the sort of thing that a clever hacker might try to exploit.

Of course it's that easy. If Planned Parenthood had been left unfunded he'd have vetoed it in a heartbeat. Obama is at war with American citizens exactly in the same way as Bush, and for the same reason - our own good.

Unfortunately this seems to be a bipartisan issue. You're getting more government regardless of who you vote for these days, red or blue.

Obama has always supported CISA.

The manipulations of certain posters here (ivwshane and yourself) to make it appear otherwise give some insight into their lack of character.

Yeah I'm sure the Senate wouldn't be able to come up with the one extra vote they would need to override his veto./s

At least he would have been on record opposing it and forcing the senate to override him. People who truly believe in something don't just throw in the towel and they damn sure don't just give up when all they have to do is say a few words to be on the right side of the issue.

Not to mention that if he had said that it would have became a very public issue and there would be a damn good chance of constituents getting involved and potentially putting enough pressure on some Senators to not override the veto. But hey, we will never know because he didn't want to waste the effort of saying a few words.

Seriously, at least be honest with yourself and understand that he didn't have a real issue with it passing at the very least and wanted it passed at the worst.

Edit: Never mind, it appears that Obama is on record being very much in favor of this bill which explains why he didn't spend 30 seconds of a day saying he would veto a bill with legislation that further erodes our privacy and freedoms. I eagerly await your new excuse for him.
