Is unlocking the bridges on the chip the ONLY way to OC a socket athlon or duron? Can you over a socket one in bios?
 
Some things are a mystery to me. Why somebody would pay to achieve the same effects that can be had for free is one of them.

I've done 3 systems using a pencil to close the bridges. All of them have been running without problems for close to 5 months. One at 1gig and 2 at 950.

 
BTW- the CircuitWorks pen works fine. Don't know what the heck anyone is talking about. This comes from several first hand experiences with it. Anyone who says anything else probably didn't use it right, and I'm not taking shots at anyone. It's worth the $$, no matter where you buy it at.

The pencil could eventually fade away. It happened to alot of people, and then they ned to take off the HSF to redo. That's why people are willing to pay a little extra for a more permanent solution.
 
All this negativity is bringing me down man... I just wanted to remind people that you can use an HB pencil or HB lead in a mechanical pencil to unlock your favorite AMD processor. Most people have been running graphite for a long time w/o problem. Thats a hot deal. And wedesdo... Tsk, tsk, tsk, InBTL is BAD!
 
The graphite is on a surface that suffers no physical wear, no friction, no abrasion. It's not exposed to any extreme weathering effects. It's covered and shielded by a HSF.

I maintain that if properly applied, which isn't very difficult, it will last for the life of the CPU.

However should mine ever fail, I'll be sure to post that fact here.
 
liar, you do not have all 4 at a gigahertz. he has one of them, mine, at a gigahertz. two of the others have not even been put in boards yet. what you trying to pull here? =)

I used radio shack's conductive pen and it worked fine. Have been using it for several weeks wihtout issue. The pen indicates that it is permanent, but dries to a flexible form (suggesting that it could be rubbed off- but there is no contact with the L1's after you close the bridges. So unless you are constantly fooling with your heat sink and processor, I can't see how it would come off.

However, if you are the compulsive type, the pen does recommed using a separate coating product to protect the ink and ensure permanency after it is applied. My guess would be that radio shack sells this as well.
