Circuit City's Extended Warentee for HW

Cheapest

Senior member
I brought a Sony FX370 Laptop from Circuit City with 4 years extended warentee. When I did a search for Circuit City I found this site http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff4756.htm had bad complaint about this warentee.
I am plan to stay the warentee but worry about what the site complainting. Can someone honestly with Circuit city laptop warentee give me some information? Someone that had experience with the hardare bad after months after they brought a laptop from CC? I have less than a week before the 30 days expire to cancel the warentee (Costs about $300+).

I don't have personal experience with CC's extended warranties, but if you paid ~$300 for a 4 year plan, I'd keep it. Odds are good that you'll need it during that time. Having worked in that industry, there are always going to be people that complain about their warranties - they often think that it entitles them to a free PC, a back massage, and a date with Liz Hurley every time it locks up.

after 3 years and 11 months, make it dead, return to circuit city, get full store credit if that product is no longer existed or they can't fix it. The credit should be enough for you to get more than 1 newer faster laptop at that time.

And that is the exact reason why stores sometimes make it difficult for the rest of us. People trying to cheat them.

Let's say a power surge fried the motherboard at that time. It's not that simple to get a new one.

Read your warranty information. The repairs/replacements are done not by Circuit City, but by a third party (GE/Zurich). If you bring in your dead notebook into CC, they will send you home. You have to call their support hotline. First they will try to help you troubleshoot the problem over the phone. If it can't be resolved over the phone, they will send you a prepaid padded box and you will have to ship it back to their service center. It can take up to two weeks for them to take a look at it. If it's unrepairable (or very costly to repair) and the problem is still covered, they will send you a replacement (refurb notebook with the same specs). Sometimes if you complain a lot, it is possible for CC to be authorized to give you store credit for a new notebook. It'll probably be ~$1000 or whatever the cheapest notebook costs at that time because they one that broke is probably outdated.

That's how I know it to work. Things might have changed.

I am affraid that GE/Zurich may use any excute to reject my service in the future. I was bring the warantee back to CC and plan to return if they did not explain to me clear. I asked if I use the laptop for a long time and some keys or something may wear out and the store sell person told me it is under warantee. He meant also that if the screen is worned down because I use it a lot and GE/Zurich will replace it for free. As soon as I don't broke it myself it is cover. It is too good to be true Is any one has this experience the CC warantee??? I am keep it if it is.

The warranty is good. If it breaks, they will fix it. If it does not, as was said, they will send you a comparable replacement. Don't expect to break it in 3 years and get a brand new top of the line laptop or even one worth what you paid for this one. The warranty is to fix or replace with a similar product which they will do.

I forget what CC's "warranty agreement" is called off hand, i think its CSP, Customer Service Plan. I don't work for CC but I work for similar company. It's not exactly a warranty, its really a "service agreement."
I can explain it to you, if you "wear down" the keys, you are sol. That is *cosmetic* not even the Manufacturer would replace that. Depends on what you mean by "Wear the screan down", if the screen is not cracked, no one will cover that. Manufacturers DO NOT cover screen. And you service agreement only covers the Screen if you got the specific plan that covers the screen.
Any physical damaged stuff, like if you break the feet or if you crack the base, or if you break the hinges, it is NOT COVERED.
The salesman will tell you "oh dont worry, if you spill milk on it or drop it from the Empire State Building, it's covered" and they like to say "if it can't be fixed that day, we will replace it". THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN.
What will happen is, if something goes wrong that IS COVERED. You take it to CC, they will when they get a chance, if its under the CSP they will contact Corporate. They will have to wait for Corporate to give them approval. Then if you get approved (MAKE SURE YOU BRING POP) they will either wait for Corporate to send them a box to ship the laptop, or maybe they already have a box. They will ship it to an Authorized Service Center. This whole process ranges from a week to a few months in some cases. Its all about corporate approval.
In short, if you are not sure if something is covered in the CSP, it probably isn't.

- Way around this. If you #$%& you will get your way, 96% of the time.

hope this was informative ..
