Ripped from bens as you Atech slackers ignored this ok deal:

CircuitCity.com has the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 with Remote for $150 - $60 rebate [Exp 9/4] = $90 with free shipping. The WinTV 250 does hardware based MPEG2 encoding

This is about as low as the WinTV-PVR-250 retails goes if you don't have a frys.

WHats it good for?

PVR/Tivo type functionality. Recording your video tapes to hard drive and what not.

It's a little better than your typical $50 card or AIW as it has onboard hardware based MPEG2 encoding.

Also it's suposedly "the" card if you want to put together a "mythTV" box....

And yes J&R has a similar card for $50 AR, but it's OOS...

Booo Hooo

Same deal on sl1ck deals got 32 comments

What's with you Atech slackers?

Just kidding. Hey I picked this up. $60 two rebates, ok it's a risk but so far the card has been fantastic for doing decent captures of my old 8mm tapes.

How good or bad is the WinTV 2000 program that's included?

I just want basic PVR functionality without paying for Beyond/SageTV.

I guess I'll be making a trip to Circuit City this evening. How good is it as a PVR?

How does my Leadtek WinTV 2000 Deluxe compare to this card? My dad has this card sitting in his computer and he used it to copy his VHS to DVD. He told me we could trade if he wanted. Is the PVR-250 much better than the leadtek card? Thanks

Got the card installed. Just about everything that shipps with the card has new version an the haupauge web page. So after installing I had to run the cleaner, then download and reinstall everthing, but that's typical.

In the DVD standard and MPEG2 12mbs configurations the capture from my 8mm camcorder was fantastic, much better than anything I was able to do with my older avermedia software based card.

WinTV2000 isn't too bad. But I remember way back, I used Cyberlink's VCR program or whatever it was called. I thought that program was fantastic, but I don't have it anymore. They are the guys behind PowerDVD. I was going to pick this up to replace my WinTV Theatre, but I'll just wait for the newer model to come out so this one drops in price more. Thanks for the heads up guys! Rossman, I guess if you don't need it now, return it?

One way to sweeten the offer a little is to get the 10% off Best Buy coupon for this weekend and get Circuit City to match.

Coupon Link

I got the the PVR-250 for $133.99 YMMV or $73.99 AR.

Does anyone still have the rebate files? I can't find them on their website anymore. If you can post a link, that's great, otherwise PM me or send them as an attachment to an e-mail.

Thanks,
Micah

The PVR-250 is definitely more than just "a little better" than an AIW or other cheapo cards out there. The onboard encoding allows me to use an PIII 700 system that would otherwise be sitting around in the spare parts bin.

For encoding the PVR-350 is the same. Difference is it has TV out, so even better for an old system. Might have an FM radio too...

PVR 500 is coming out in a month or so. $200 and two tuners....

Circuit city is pretty slick for rebates these days. IF you ask they will print all the copies of the reciepts you need, AND they print out the rebate form already filled out. Just sign then thing (forgot that once and got rejected) and fill out your email address, copy/cut the UPC throw in an envelope and you are done done done done....

Speaking of which I need to go out and buy some stamps so I can mail these things.
