Seriously! Mine was even though the box said 2 mb.

I went to my local CC and explained the situation. The manager called the corporate office and after a half hour of talking to them, they said that they WILL be rectifying the situation with all customers, but we'd have to call 1-800-THE-CITY tomorrow to find out how.

So we'll see what tomorrow brings....

Went in to pick up my drive - had reciepts, web page screen shot, email confirmation - the whole works. The manager refused to speak to me, and sent the poor customer service girl out to me 3 different times, finally showing me a print out that the web prices were not set in stone and that $60 rebate was a typo. Can explain to the girl 90 different ways that there were 3 rebates, and that the dates were changed after my purchase etc etc etc, but it won't do a thing if the manager won't come out.

I returned mine - if I'm going to spend $80 on a hard drive it's going to be an 8mb cache one.

So keeping my eyes peeled for the next hot deal - hopefully one without rebate fiascos.

yes people, please return all your orders, since the deal is not longer valid.

RETURN ALL YOUR ORDERS PLEASE

Um. I live in MN too. I have super ultra secret, crazy tie-died hippy-loving, make you wanna scream information about this rebate also. But..... I can't tell anyone till the day after tommorow. Let me know if you want to know the secret handshake.

Oh, and I realize you might be a little bit closer to Young America than me.... Thanks for the info. ;)

Pricematch and buy the extended warranty :p.
I ordered this drive online for in-store pickup. I drove an hour to get it and had a copy of the email stating there was 3 rebates. At first the lady told me they don't print rebates for orders online, but I told her I'd done this before and she decided to try to print the rebates anyway. She printed two(10 & 80) and I told her there were three, using my email as reinforcement, but she said to get the $60 rebate online. Anyway, I didn't walk out with the $60 rebate, which is fine as long as I get the money eventually through rebates. I ordered this product around 11:30 CST, before Circuit City decided to pretend the $60 rebate didn't exist. I was polite with the worker and it got me no where; if anyone has any suggestions on how I can get my $60, whether by MIR or IR let me know. I'm going to give 1-800-251-2665 a shot in the morning.

BTW, did anyone else have to wait 15+ min. for them to get the item out of storage?

Sheesh.. What a mess! I'm actually kind of glad now that none of the stores in the Chicago area or Milwaukee area had this drive in stock when I tried to order it.

Good luck everyone..

For those not wanting the hassle, or not wanting to hope a rebate comes through:
Microcenter WesternDigital 120gb hd 8mb cache for 179.99 - 80 MIR's (2 of them, one wants original upc, one wants copy, both want copy of receipt) = 99.99

Everybody, should open their drives and check for an 8MB cache because the $70 price is pretty good for an 8MB, and hopefully we can get more data on which serial numbers correspond to 8MB models. Finally opening it will make CC hurt a little more for their mistake.

As I said earlier. If the serial number on the box is WMACM******* then it IS an 8mb buffer drive in the box! I bought one last month on the last promotion and both my brother and I bought one each today and they are 8mb drives.

That's a lot of storage but I have 5 internal and 4 external-using 4 usb 2.0 's. Total of 740gb. Plus I have a 40gb still lying around...so, I might pass on this deal....well, maybe not...hehe:evil:

Why is everyone so hot to trot about the warranty? Does it do something that I don't know about....?

I see you guys forget.

Even if you cant get the $60 credit, you can get the drive for $60 AR. OfficeMax has this drive on sale on Sunday for $150 + $80 rebate. So you can PM to the Pre-Rebate price and get it for around $60 AR. If you can get the $60 credit then your getting the drive just for the tax then.
