Hi all, new poster here. Thanks for all the good deals you've pointed me towards. Anyways, this unfortunately didn't end up being one for me. I was able to buy one online at a 'local' (30 miles in the wrong direction) store after verifying that all of the rebates were a go. Then then CC/WD started changing expiration dates without explanation. I tried to call Young America again but that was a no go. My 'local' CC said they couldn't do anything so call the national 'help' line. The national help line told me that the $60 rebate wouldn't be paid because the rebate form clearly stated only one rebate per person per household. Um... the $60 rebate is different than the $80. Grrrr. Anyways, I gave up and cancelled the order so there should be one more for you braver souls in Winchester, VA.

So I called the CC rebate center (888-213-9761) and it appears they are looking into the issue and nobody seams to have an answer, but they are looking into it and they took my info and will call me back.

Did you show them your email conformation? The conformation lists 3 rebates... only two print at the register.. so they need to credit 60$

I went into the store in Binghamton NY... if i had called i would have gotten the same answer as you.. but i went in with my conformation... screen shot of website... since only 2 of the rebates printed at the register they gave me the credit... he even called the corporate office.

Ordered Express PickUp from the York PA store...an hour away, but OOS in the Harrisburg store. Ordered at 11am EST, got there at 4pm and it was there waiting for me. Receipts printed up and then did the $80 and $10 rebates. I mentioned that on the website there were 3 rebates this morn (playing dumb will get you far ;-) She asked for the ad, showed her the printout of the webpage from this morn and she tried printing the rebates again. Sales rep tried printing the rebates 3 more times (gave me all copies too) and finally gave up and went to the website to print the $60 rebate. I let her print it, then pointed out that the date had been changed to expire on the 23rd. She agreed it must be an error since the website printout I had was marked with today's date. She advised me to send it anyway and if it was rejected, to come back to the store with the rejection letter and they would adjust the price. I tried to sweet talk her into doing it now, but she wouldn't have it. So...I drove the hour home, went to the Harrisburg store and explained the situation to the rep there. She spoke with her supe for a bit, then adjusted the price right there...even gave me the $3.xx tax back from the $60 as well.

w00t!

And I also have the multiple rebate receipt printouts from the first store showing the original price rather than the adjusted, so no raised eyebrows at WD!

GL to anyone who is able to pull it off. If you can...smokin!

Oh yea...special edition 8 meg buffer...double w00t! Serial is WMACMxxxxxxx for anyone who is interested.

I can't image everyone on the Hot Deals forum not wanting in on this ^_^

I can. 640GB is good enough for me.

What is this about getting the 8mb buffer? What is the serial # for?

So, did anyone save the site before the $60 rebate was deleted or date changed to 4/23? All I see are $80 and $10 rebates.

So if the $60 is no longer valid....

$159.99 + tax (8.5% for me) = $173.59 + $0.74 stamp = $174.33 - $80 MIR - $10 MIR = $84.33 final cost ; $ 0.703/GB.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like the Omax Hot deal next week is better. I have a $30 off $150 coupon mailed from OMax valid till 5/31/2003.

$149.99 WD 120 GB + $0.29 paper clips - 30 off $150 coupon + tax = $130.50 + $0.37 stamp = $130.87 - $ 80 MIR rebate =$ 50.87 final cost ; $ 0.424/GB. :D

The forms are on page 2.

Incidently, I opened my box and found out it had indeed been upgraded to an 8 mb model. SWEET!

I've sent in for all three rebates with a note on the $60 explaining why I have a copy instead of the original. If they reject it, I have all my files and I'll hop right down to my local CC store and get a $60 refund.

Just got back form my local CC to pick up my drive that I ordered before they changed the page.Brought my saved pictures of the unchanged site :D. I did not get the instant $60.00 back but a signed written guarentee that if my rebate was refused that CC would refund my $60.00. It even states that on my sales receipt.
So not to bad but i would have rather had the instant cash.

My friend got a drive at the Northtown (my excellent compatriot Rapids, MN) Store this morning. Went back after work and spoke with a gal whose name he couldn't remember, but she was the "operations manager" it said on her name tag. She called the 1-800-THE-CITY number and they told her that the $60 was a mistake and that she could offer to let him return it if he wanted to. He was pissed so he said let's call them again, that's bait and switch. He showed print-outs of all three rebates and the page showing the listing with 3 rebates also. She pointed him to another phone and said you call them. He talked to a gal named "betty" at the 800 number and she said that the $60 rebate is invalid and was a mistake. It was expired. Then she said that it was up to the discretion of the manager to give a rebate. He then went back to the "operations manager" and told her that "betty" said that she could give him his $60. She finally gave in and refunded the money to his card. It took him like an hour he said, but I guess $60/hr isn't too bad. :)

Good luck to all of you who scored this deal. Don't give up, be willing to fight it knowing that others have gotten the money back. And for the rest of you whiny fools saying "I can't believe you are all gettin gupset" blah blah blah. Shutup. You're jealous that you didn't get in on it. You'd be whining too if you got scammed $60.

EDIT: ALSO! HE GOT THE 8MB VERSION!!

So did mine...Click the link for the $60 rebate, and you'll see that it's been modified to show that the rebate ended 4/23.

Fortunately, I printed mine this morning, so it still shows it ending 4/30. I love it when people think they can change history.

My Store shafted me and refused to give me the 60 dollar credit. They're like its not on the website anymore. I'm not No crap(other word censored). I got fed up refunded and i"m taking my business else where. Pernamently. That CC isn't gonna have my business anymore. I'm willing to drive extra 10 minutes to avoid those idiots.

1. This forum is about people willing to fight for written confirmations of hot deals.

2. If you called, you contributed to killing this deal.

3. If you placed an order in the early morning hours before people called stores and rebate centers and got the third rebate changed and pulled, you may get this deal. If you placed it afterwards, it'd going to be tough because all online email receipts end with: Order Confirmation Email generated at: date/time and they know when the third rebate was changed.

People who called thought they would get Manager confirmation that Circuit City is selling 10 dollar 120GB hard drives.

This why they are referred to as morons. Persons whose IQ lies between 45 and 59.
Slightly stupider than a retard (60-69) but still smarter than an idiot (below 45).

Yep called them they confirmed that the $60 is invalid, and currently is up to the store managers to deal with this. I had called him earlier but the rep offered to call the store and ask anyway. So I did it and my manager refused. I'll try to get to another CC store tomorrow to see if they would allow it.
